First look at Pentax Official Tethering Software for 645D

Hi guys, strangely I haven't seen any post about this software yet and apparently lots of people are waiting for it so I thought I'd share. I've been testing this software for almost a month now, overall pretty basic compared to all other manufacturers out there but it does solve the dreaded problem of tethering with the 645D. The best way to use it is combine with Lightroom 3/4 on Auto Import, I imagine Aperture would have the same function.

Here's some screen shot of the software itself and with LR Auto Import. I think they're pretty self-explanatory since the software really is very simple:

Interesting.
Have you tried it on a K-5? It would be cool if it worked on the K-5 too.

PS - welcome to PFF.

@ Rawr: AFAIK this is an 645D exclusive software, at least that's coming from the Pentax Rep for Oceania, but then I dont have a K-5 to make sure of that.

When I saw you mention Oceania, I thought you were in my part of the world (Australia), but alas Vietnam is too far away from me to loan you my K-5 for a test

Unless Pentax have deliberately crippled it somehow, I bet this software would work on a K-5. There seems a lot of software and circuitry commonality between the 645D and recent Pentax DSLR's.

I'll call the local pentax rep to see if he has a K-5 i can borrow and report back.

@derAngler: Yes you just have to set raw on camera. It basically transfer whatever is on the card that's ticked 'Retrieving'

The software is delivered on a CD which has both Mac and Window version. I got it by constanly harassing my local Pentax rep till they Fedex one from Japan. So I assume if you call hard enough they will do the same.

If they've done it for the 645, how hard would it be to make it compatible with the K-5?

What version # does your software have? Is it <1.0 or 1.0+?

Version 1.0.0 (6). This is the one announced for 645D only, not the previous version of Pentax tethering software (aka pre K20D)

FWIW, a rep at the Pentax booth told me that PK_Tether has far more features than their own software

Any suggestion that they will bring out an official Pentax tethering software for their K mount cameras? With Liveview?

He said stick to PK_Tether, and that there were no plans to make it incompatible with future cameras.
