Pentax on flickr stats - 3m K-x, 750k K-5

For those who have been watching these stats, yesterday was interesting because the K-x clocked past 3 million photos on flickr for the first time, and the K-5 edged above 720k images and is well on the way to 750k.

The K-x is still the most used Pentax DSLR - however usage seems to be gradually slowing down. But the K-5 is continuing to come on strong. The K20D and K10D still also have a lot of active users.

FYI

Nearly 8.5 million K10D images.
That's astounding. The K10D just keeps going strong.
Give it time and you'll see the K-5 figures grow.

Yeah, the K10D seems to be a real trooper, powering along with good usage despite the new fancy cameras getting all the love.

Yep. The K10d is a real stayer, I still have my K0d, even though owner of a K5. Would not part with either.

Yes indeed, it's only 50 % of K-5 and it should be the other way around. On the other side the K-5 is maybe such a good deal that lot's of Pentax user's upgraded from *Ist, K10D, K20D, K200D and K-7 directly to K-5. At least we have in our Dutch forum lots of K-5's many more then there where ever K-7'ens.

In the UK at least I have seen the KR and KX sold side by side in general electronics stores. The sales guy was hard pushed to explain why I should get the Kr over the Kx. If I had been shopping for real I would have gone for the Kx two lens kit rather than the Kr. I wonder how widespread this is.

I am still pumping K10D pictures onto flickr... Again, personal observation, but when I have seen people out with Pentax DSLRs in the UK it's been K10Ds and Kxs.

In addition to that the incremental changes to the K-r may seem underwhelming (Though if you look closer, they're quite significant, and not only the focus indicator), I think they may have missed on the design. The K-r doesn't have the "cuteness" of the K-x - it looks like a dull bastard of the "macho" K-5 and the "softer" K-x, while the latter clearly states that it was made to appeal to the female buyers.

No intention to turn this into a FF tread but this is a reason why a FF camera would work for Pentax. The argument that FF is just a few % of the sales for CaNikon don't apply for Pentax.

When I went shopping for a camera the K-x was just on the verge of discontinuation and the K-r was just coming out. I opted for the K-x due to the cost vs the features. I still wonder if I made the wrong decision or not.

Also, AA batteries. If I remember right, the K-r requires an adapter to use the things where the K-x I can just use them on the fly. That was a HUGE dealbreaker for me since I was upgrading from a point and shoot and could therefore use my stockpile of AA's without needing some silly adapter to use them on the K-r. A *lot* of posts from K-x users seem to be "I grabbed a K-x when I upgraded from a point and shoot..." The K-r is not nearly as friendly in this regard due to having to either deal with its own battery pack or having to get an adapter that was both hard to find and rather expensive at the time.
