Pentax at Wal-Mart

This is news to me. How long has Wal-Mart sold Pentax cameras?

News article about this at Wall Street Journal Market Watch.

Walmart.com has carried Pentax for years. Don't bother going to a store to try to find one, they are online only.

Ricoh has been using their US sales channels (which is quite large) to make a move on the retail side of things here in the states - we will more than likely see them in stores soon...

They don't, at least not in my little town. Maybe they are going to start?

Well, this coincides with a few things, most notably:

Best Buy carrying Pentax in some stores now
Kr being discontinued (even though they will be carried in/at walmart)

Now, need to put it all in perspective on what is going on...

Many big box stores will have them on their website but not in the stores. Nothing new about that.

The only thing that's new is that walmart.com is going to have exclusive colors. Does this squash the rumors that the K-r has been discontinued?

"Exclusive" might be marketing speak. A lot of colors were available in Japan but not in the US I believe. Maybe, if the K-R is now discontinued, this a way to clear all of that misc. color inventory and at the same time make a splash at Wal-Mart. Lots of free advertising or at least brand promotion. Just make a deal and clear everything at once.

Walmart's online pricing is surprisingly uncompetitive. K-r and 18-55 lens is $799. Adorama and Amazon have it at $710 ... for the 2 lens kit that includes the 55-300 lens.

Makes perfect sense, but rather than type all that again, I'll just post a link to my explanation.

The Walmart site does not offer the rebates for the K-5. It's $300 more than B&H, Amazon and some camera stores. I would rather not buy from Walmart.

Ha, so much for every day low prices and Save Money Live Better LMAO,

In store they would have market competitive pricing because they would shop the market and adjust to local prices at least. apparently no-one is in charge of that online
