560 5.6 is close to a 300 2.8 with a doubler. The front element would be about the same I would think that most 300 2.8's have.

Pretty sure the hood on the 560mm is extended in the product photo:

Good eye. Wonder why it needs an alignment dot. Maybe it is removable too?

I think people will find supply will be the problem, so many will be looking for one, that it will be a wait to get them.

I think your right about that lens hood sliding out like that.

For a 560mmm to be 5.6 front element would have to be at least 100mm or so, using normal lens dynamics.

Veryy very interested to see what the actual price is going to be.

I was looking at it wondering how it worked. It almost looks like there is an element at the front. The inside rim doesn't look like the inside rim of a hood. A collapsible lens that retracts 4-5"? Very hard to tell. You can see the notches for a threaded ring that holds an element in place. The marks don't make sense for a hood.

In the mean time, Sony just announced a 500mm f/4 (and they're finally going Full-Frame! ... well, maybe Pentax will use that sensor too )

Oohh. Shows how much I know! I didn't realize they already has some FF. DP Review's "finally" was referring to the lens, not the camera announced at the same time.

Two ring notches and the reflection of what seems to be an element.

Looks like it could just be the AF/MF switch ???

I am just really guessing here.

JP
Why would you need a AF/MF switch on the lens, when the bodies all have MF/AF/CF switches? Honestly I would be a little surprised if it did end up actually being Screw Driven now days, considering the speed disadvantage vs DC/SDM motors (dependent on focus throw I guess).. But reliability would be there at least! As for WR, that could be a MAJOR selling feature I hope they don't drop the ball on.. Sigma/Tamron lenses are not sealed.. so making the DA 560 a WR would give them such a distinct advantage in the long Tele market.

You wouldn't think you'd need it, especially with camera to lens communication these days, but a lot of lenses still have an AF/MF switch, including the 300 f/4. At a minimum it's nice for catch-in-focus.
