IMO a high end long lens makes more sense than a cheap version nobody would buy, because the Sigma zooms are cheaper still.
The Bigma is very weak at the long end, a prime with simple design can deliver better results (I own manual lenses with 3-4 elements that do quite well, they lack any automated function, though).
And the "long range optimization" hints at not so great close range results. 5.6m isn't exactly stellar, either.
