Ben, as you say these are only compressed in PS, so no PP. Though the EXIF is incomplete and can't determine if some or any had a flash fire. I think the most striking thing I notice is White balance. On all the pictures it is set at Auto, and unless you've got some very cool lighting in your house i must say that setting to Tungeston whenever we're indoors is a thing of the past.

You didn't happen to save any images taken in the 1.6Mpix burst mode, did you? I realize it's not exactly targeted at fashion photographers, but I'd like to see a sample.

How about providing a sample raw file for us to look at? DNG would be fine, not sure the new format would be effectively handled by existing raw conversion packages. This would show me a lot more than a few compressed jpg files. Thanks!

Thanks Ben!

I tried the original link and it seems the gallery entire gallery at photographyreview.com was down, not just your gallery.... the Smugmug link is much better!

Regards,
Marc

EDIT: Dang, I was hoping to check out some high ISO shots... that cell phone shot is amazing at full resolution though! The ISO 400 shot of the can is very nice.

Frames per second... What are the true specs, 3 at ful res, how does the 20fps work (mirror up or something?) and can it go faster than 3fps at a lower res say 10mp

Well, it the 200 iso doorknob pic seems to have banding and dead pixels all over the place.

granted the banding loks more like luminance stuff that the k10d had early on and was fixed in frimware rather than the Chromanance VPN.

Chroma noise seems very well ocntrolled.

There's also a buttload of dead pixels in the doorknob pic. I stopped counting aorund 30. Hope that's jsut because of it being a pre-production sample without finidshed firmware.

If find the lighting seems real in those shots, I mean to say, the low light stuff, like the cell phone with backlighting - everything is perfectly balanced. It doesn't feel I'm looking at a picture of the scene, but at the scene itself. Not sure what lens you had used there, but the resistance to fringe was very nice as well. Lastly, I might ask for your impression of the enhanced SR. Did you find that you had a higher 'keeper' ratio? I'm sure you picked the sharpest of the bunch, but there really isn't a smidge of motion blur to be seen in this batch of apparently freehand snap-shots in low light.

The sensor has an error.
I see a vertical line of one pixel in every photo on the left side.

Here are crops from 3 images:

I returned the camera this evening...
Why would you not think to take any at high ISO - 1600-6400? Of course it would be best at low ISO's, but high ISO's are the unknown.

The JPEGs are promising, the AWB is as good as any I've seen, and the color makes me want to see what a well-processed RAW file will deliver...

Thanks so much, Ben, for wetting our whistles. I'm sure looking forward to seeing the full extent of this new camera's IQ, just as others have their own burning foci of curiosity. Just want you to know how much it means to so many of us to have fellow enthusiasts who will knock themselves out to share!

High - ISO

There has been high iso shots around, but I expected more. The comparison between 40D and K20D(beta?) at Pentax K20D - Akam.no shows that iso3200 is close to being unusable (for me) on both cameras. I Found some iso 800 shot from Dubai (in a store), and it was ok, nothing more.. So why would anyone try shooting 6400 ?? Maybe some later firmware will improve things...
