Seeing it with a collapsed hood really brings me back to wanting one ;-)

Thanks for posting this video, temptation temptation!

I love it how the guy has it on a Q - 3100mm FOV! With that setup, I don't think you could fit a full moon image on one frame, perhaps we can see the Apollo lander?

See how handholdable the lens is? If it gives sharp images with the Q-10 it is bloody good.

(title of the video says "650mm ...")
Who was the interviewer? Yourself? ...Just asking.

I said, a litle while ago, that this was a very expensive lens BUT it is "atrociously attractive"!
I wonder if, according to the interviewer, it is that "not as heavy" as one would expect for such a lenghty piece of "glass".

Too bad the video did not show what the actual image would be once you'd press the shutter! And, with using a K5 (II, IIs) with it.

I ilke this collapsible hood ... makes the lens quite portable actually.

Thanks for sharing.

Probably
Anyway, if you increas focal lenght by 40mm and increase the speed by one stop you double the weight + 1kg!
I'm very tempted to replace my 600/4 with this. The DA 560 weights 3kg. The 600/4 7kg!

Tempting indeed, except again for the "release" price; but this may eventually come down a bit (I would hope) as "street price" of some sort.

This is a 3kg lens, quite close to the Sigma 500/4.5 at 3.1 Kg ... now which will obtain the best IQ score once compared?

I will be following any thread making such comparisons when available ... time for a decision before the end of 2012.

Cheers!

The lens is really really light and easy to hold. Makes sense, since there's almost no glass in it

The focusing throw is very short, so I expect the AF to be pretty fast, but nobody was allowed to test it yet. Some say that this lens is still an early prototype, and they wouldn't let me put anything on it (did get to hold it and play with the switches though). It definitely works though, as on press day they mounted a Q.

Sit down and discuss it at a table. Having those two giggle while holding it like that made me nervous.

How can I justify one? It's not a matter of convincing the wife, she'll probably be using it more than me so excuses as to way I need one.

It is needed for a lens like this. With shorter focus MF, would be painful! Besides you propably saw also 'focus limiter' that makes it more fast at tele or near shooting... besides ring motor should be super fast.
