All digital images have noise. That's a given. If you print that ISO200 image at 150 DPI (31 inches wide) I challenge you to see any noise when viewed at an appropriate viewing distance for the size of the print. Same challenge for the 3200 ISO image too, after one pass through NoiseWare Pro. Images from this sensor will print up great, IMHO.

Maybe I'm expecting too much. Judging from the unofficial ISO 1600 shot, I'm not impressed. I'd like to see that shot put up against the competition. And I'm not saying this because I want Pentax to be worse, I want them better. I will say one thing though, I've managed to get better ISO 1600 shots out of my K10D than 90% of the images shot by other users with a K10D so, maybe I'm overreacting and the K20D will somehow shine in my hands.. Ahh, who knows..

Wow...better than 90% of all K10D shooters? What's your sample size for your survey? Were the differences in noise statistically significant? Did you go through the ethical board of review before you conducted your study?

If you like dessert, I might suggest some humble pie. I hear it's delicious.

Come on, High ISO shooting is no wonderful trick. It just takes practice and understanding. Many here have posted 800-1600 shots that most never knew where shot at hight ISO's.

Keep in mind this is a tough scene !

Lot's of dark areas and most of the scene is out of focus, the globe, the color patches in front, even the Kodak chart in the back. For me this is a bad ISO test, they should have done it with the lens at higher f/number or at least to position the objects in the same plane.

Also the "sharpness" setting in the camera is on "SOFT" ?! I have no idea why. And I bet if these were shot on RAW and converted via a raw software, the high iso results would be a lot nicer.

Even so, I run the 6400 image into noiseware and the results look very good, the hair on the doll and her cloth look detailed after noise reduction, only downside is the rabbit who loses detail in the fur.

This is very unfair.
The K10D image is clearly out fo focus and the WB is off.

Overall I am impressed with the high ISO performance of the K20D.
But such biased tests don't help.

Thanks, Ricardo. I'd looked at the original posting on Yvon's blog, so am glad you called to our attention the update to full-sized photos he added later. My, that 14.6MP CMOS sensor has got some chops, don't it?

These images are on par or better than the Canon 20D performance, which I consider quite incredible.

I am in love with this camera already. I have been printing big lately (A3 to A2 sizes). With landscape, 14 MP with great control of noise level is just a dream come true.

The amount of enlargements I have done are more than what my collection of lenses are worth... That kind of pixel peeping also correlately poorly to actual prints. k10d is really capable of producing stunning details in a lot of things that I could not see on a resized image on a computer monitor.

This k20d is just so amazing with its high ISO performance. Good news to all the available light shooters
