New Sigma 10-20 f3.5 (constant)

As posted on one of the polish photography sites, Sigma will show new ultrawide zoom, also for Pentax (well, some time in the future) with constant f3.5 aperture. Much more attractive IMO than the current one.

Thanks the the URL, I don't know any Polish but from the chart the lens will have 82mm filter. It will be a big lens.

Dum question, but why?
I typically run mine up at f/11, f/13 to get enough of the frame (landscapes) in focus...

And 82mm CPL will be pretty expensive as is the UV filter. We're talking $200 just in filters for good ones...

The "DC" designation still means it's APS-C only. If it were FF, it might be worth it...

Not every wide angle lense is used for landscape photography. Those who can get creative... will.

I've lately wanted to get a wide angle zoom lens (wider than the 18mm the kit lens has) to try out those focal lengths. Thanks for the info. I'll wait and see how this one pans out.

10-20 @ 3.5 looks promising. I had a DA 14mm f/2.8 which was fantastic. Fast apertures on a super-wide can come in very handy.

I've been waiting for news of a Pentax DA* 11-16mm 2.8 based on the Tokina but it doesn't look like it's coming this year even. I want a fast ultra-wide lens and maybe Sigma's 3.5 will be fast enough. The extra reach at both ends is appealing too.

But does 3.5 gives you that much less DOF compared to the current one? I didn't see much w/ the Tokina 11-16/2.8 either...a bit but not as much as I thought I'd see at 2.8 because it's so wide...

also yea, the filters are gonna be expensive.... maybe too expensive... but is it possible to make a really wide angle lens with a small diameter? (i dont really know whats on the market....)

I am sure yours bought yesterday will be just as good whether a new one or not was released. If you cant sleep, just sell it to me!

I didn't buy my f/2.8 ultrawide glass for creative selective focus (and if you did, you're an idiot). I bought it so I could shoot hand-held at midnight, and keep it under ISO400.

Wide, fast glass is the easiest to shoot on in poor lighting conditions. And constant aperture is important to a lot of people (me included).

Having said that, unless this lens is at least slightly better optically than the tokina 11-16/2.8, it's going to die a quick death. That Tokina glass is phenomenal, and it's going to be tough to beat -- especially if you're only producing an f/3.5 lens.

Though it does have a bit of extra reach on both ends, that I can appreciate.

Makes me want to sell my useless (but good performing) Tammy 17-50/2.8
