some demo some open box, sounds like the KR blowout earlier this year. K5 must now be in a Gone when Gone status. New model may well end up announced before Photokina then since that is still 6 weeks off

Fry's City of Industry only has a demo unit.
Looks in good shape, salesperson says he has the box and all acc. and was willing to give additional 5% ($40) discount for it being a demo.

I dont think its really that great of a deal. Seeing how you can get a used one from a careful pentax owner for less than $799, versus getting a store demo which everyone has "played" with. Plus you also have to pay tax on top of that $799. You can get a brand new one from BHPhoto and other online retailers for roughly the same price (after tax)

Yes, the K-r deal was a good deal at $299, because at the time, the K-r was selling even used for around $400 and more.

They are running it again in this week's ad at $799 . I think you might be able to negotiate a lower price on the demo units.
