When they released LR4, recent (within a few months?) purchasers of LR3 got a free upgrade. With a bit of sending stuff back and forth, of course ...

I'm out of the loop. Are we expending LR5 GA in the next month or two?

I placed an order just before the offer ended on June 8th, and got it for $70 before $20 MIR. The bundle had a discount of $70 applied.

That happened to me last time when I bought discounted LR3 at end of cycle, was given free upgrade to LR4.

What sort of process was involved in getting that upgrade Larry?

I believe we had to contact adobe customer service, then fill out a form and provide proof of purchase.
You then had to follow up and get an approval, and they would send you a download link and serial.
Doing this from memory.
When I get home I will look for the info and post it.

How do I find out if I'm eligible for a complimentary upgrade?



You could be eligible for a complimentary upgrade if you bought your software product (full or upgrade) soon after a new version was announced. To find out if your purchase falls in the eligibility period, contact Adobe to chat with an agent (English only). For other languages, select an option from the Need A Different Country Or Region menu.
Adobe doesn't notify customers who purchased single-user licenses about complimentary post-announce upgrades. Volume license customers receive an email with instructions for claiming their complimentary post-announce upgrades.


What are the requirements for a complimentary upgrade?

• You must have a single-user retail, volume license, or educational version of an Adobe software product. Not sure if you have a single-user product? See Determine what type of software license you have.
  
  The following Adobe products don't qualify for complimentary upgrades:
  • Products purchased through the Mac App Store
  • Second-hand purchases, including software received through a transfer of license
