Any thoughts on this price (the lowest i have seen)and the seller. Looking to buy the k5 lls in the next week.

you have to check if the seller is actually reputable. Note that this price is not from amazon, is from another seller. are they pentax authorized? etc.

Here's how "fulfillment by amazon" works:

1. Seller signs up for service.
2. Seller ships items to amazon.
3. Customer buys item from amazon.
4. Amazon ships item to customer.

So far so good. And you're covered by Amazon's return policy.

Here's the potential bad:

1. Where did the camera come from? These resellers are almost never authorized.
2. Are the accessories genuine and included?
3. Was the camera previously returned? In the case of cameras, Amazon sends the item back to the seller for refurbishment. The cam in all likelihood ends up on Amazon's shelf for resale once it's been reset.

The whole scenario results in some risk. It's up to you if the potential hassle is worth it.

When you buy from an authorized dealer you know where the product comes from. The result is piece-of-mind that shouldn't be overlooked for a costly item.

THat is interesting. So item is shipped by amazon? I thought seller just signed up for service. Something like "authorized amazon reseller"

do you know if you get an invoice from the seller or from amazon? If you get invoice form amazon, then you're covered under pentax warranty (i guess)

I have a theory that Pentax doesn't sell to dealers without a brick and mortar presence anymore. This is just a theory.

Amazon is just moving boxes and protecting customers with their return policy. For Amazon it's a win-win.

This is different than items that are fulfilled by 3rd parties. Beach Camera comes to mind. In this scenario Amazon is just handling the web transaction. These sellers are typically not as fly-by-night as compared to "fulfilled by amazon" dealers.

I bought an Android Tablet from an Amazon Marketplace seller. The tablet broke after 3 months and the seller disappeared. No cover from Amazon who only guarantee delivery of the item then drop you.

A mistake that I will not repeat.

I bought one of these from Great Lakes Cameras, fulfilled by Amazon on 8/30 for $969.99. The camera is perfect, and came with the normal Pentax material. I have checked before and as long as it is fulfilled by Amazon, it comes with the regular U.S. warranty.

I bought a K-5II from a dealer in which the order was fulfilled by Amazon. I received a K-5II 18-135mm kit with the lens missing. Pentax may choose to warranty these cameras, but they are not procured through authorized means.

Our camera is perfect for what it's worth. The transaction just seemed less than legitimate, however.

I also bought my K-5 II from great lakes, fulfilled by amazon. Camera was new in box, unopened, no problems.

I would speculate that this is an indication of where the price will end up after the K3 becomes official. Wait a month or so and you may be seeing prices like this everywhere.
