Custom Cover kits for Q - Aki-Asahi

I was goofing around following a link stevebrot showed to kcobain1992 on another thread and what should I find but this Custom Covering kit for the Q in all manner of special cowhides embossed and dyed to look like exotic leathers.

Aki-Asahi.com/store Q kits

Not that I'm Qrazy enoughn to already replace the leathers, but its kinda cool to think about.

Some really nice ones there! It just shows that the Q can pull of any clothing.
When with the retro special edition in tacky gold with snake skin edition come?

They look very cool, but what withheld me from ordering one in the past was that in order for it to fit on properly, you must remove the original Q skin; you can't just stick it over. I didn't really want to have to do that... I wouldn't have a problem replacing the skin on a manual SLR, but I'd think twice when doing it to a digital.

I have two of these skins waiting for me to get the nerve up to peel off the black original skin on my Qs. Not sure what the big deal is for me, since I have two Qs in case I mess one up (and they're going for peanuts these days in any case). Seems a bit like the first time I opened up a computer case and started pulling parts out...

I got one of these kits for my x10 and they're really good quality. I know the x10 is a Fuji camera but I imagine the skin is similar to the Q. I managed to peel all the originals (which were held on by what was basically double sided tape) off very easily, without stretching or tearing them, and they fit perfectly on the carrier sheet the kit came on in case I ever wanted to go back - such as for a warranty claim. If you follow the instructions on the video on their website and take your time you shouldn't have any problems at all.

In fact you can apply the sticker without removing the original skin, I did that over a year ago and it stayed on fine, no peeling off.

This almost makes me want to try it with most any camera - digital or film.

Btw for NY'ers out there... There's a person whom regularly wanders around the Times Square side of Central Park a few times a week - with a leather covered Mamiya PhaseOne.
