Body is very good. Lens has fungus. A dent in the filter thread.

I've fixed all of them and clean the lens inside as well. Now I describe this lens as 'mint' condition!

1651658HiddenThis is an 8 element version with the IR index mark on the left of the 4 numeral when viewed from the rear of the lens. The rear element protrudes beyond the mount. When obtained, it was deeply yellowed (Thorium) but this was cleared by exposure to sunlight over a period of a week. Mechanically it is in perfect condition. The lens produces superb images with all of the attributes that the type is famous for.USA

1648180HiddenI am delighted to own this nearly mint 8-element version: the IR mark is on the right rather than the left of the "4" on the distance scale, and the protruding rear element glass sticks out farther than the surrounding ring just a tad. The highest serial number I have seen before acquiring this lens is 158XXXX. The glass is clear (not yellow) and is nearly void of any dust particles. The aperture blades (six of them) are very clean and snappy. A very nice find and I can't wait to get out and test the lens.

I have posted some images of the lens in an Album I created. Please click on my account name.

1582169Hidden8 elements version (IR markright sided on 4 DOF scale )purchased via-ebay@mid 2010(incl. original caps/hood/leather cases for lens & hood).
working perfect , pristine glass ,outer condition almost mint.excellent lens!
hint of yellowing fully cured with UV lamp treatment
(seehttp://orlygoingthirty.blogspot.com/2008/07/radioactive-thorium-glass.html).
Update Dec 2010- sky filter asahi remained stuck on the lens ; lens dropped on wood-tile and filter mounted on the lens went a bit oval.filter cannot be removed w/o risk of damaging the thread of front element, thus it will remain mounted.
evtg. else is still working very fine with this lens

1555001HiddenLens is in EX condition with original (design) lens and rear element cap .

No product code on the back of the M - A switch; however:

1. M - A on either side of switch, rather than Manual - Auto
2. IR mark to the right of 4
3. The real element glass protrudes from the surrounding metal frame, compared to being recessed as with the later 7 element lens
4. 6 aperture blades, rather than 8
5. When placing the 8 element lens next to a Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 50mm f1.4 (s/n 6123865) on a glass surface, both caps removed, the 8 element lens is shorter (not longer) than the 7 element lens as mentioned in the following Forum thread.
6. Serial number is higher that the referenced highest s/n based on the following Forum thread

1551447HiddenBought used on eBay. IR mark to the right of the 4, protruding rear element, no yellowing; all confirmations that this is the 8-element version. Minor internal dust otherwise perfect.
I also noticed that the focus ring is less damped and more buttery smooth than the other Tak 1.4s I've owned.

1489849HiddenCosmetics fairly good; there is some wear to the high points of the focus grip grooves. Optics and functions excellent,

This serial was in a batch of 19,970 produced fairly late in the 8-element series. Diamond DoF indicator; no red R; IR mark to right of 4; blank aperture switch reverse surface; protruding rear element.

1487910HiddenThis is the second 8-element version of this lens I now own. Bought at a garage sale as a group purchase and will wind up making money once I sell the other items. I was pinching myself with excitement when I found this lens buried under several other Pentax items. It has all the hallmark characteristics of the 8-element version and looks nearly new. All the good things that are supposed to be obvious are there. The lens elements have a few very small dust particles, but it nearly sparkels inside and out. OK, sorry if I sound like I'm gloating. I wasn't looking for another 8-element lens, but this one just fell into my lap.

BTW, I notice that there are many non-8 element entries in this list. I would like to suggest that a few pics perhaps be required to authenticate 8-element SN's. Just a suggestion...;-))

I have posted some images of the lens in an Album I created. Please click on my account name.
