Another 85mm f2 - ultra low cost

Now here is another 85mm for Pentax - $125 shipped NEW. Although it says PK-A mount, I guess it's not A. Anyone tried this? I am not buying this one (already have three lenses in same range), just curious.

I tend to be a lens snob and stick to brands that I know and trust. Couldn't tell what the brand of this lens is, but for $125 new, I have to wonder about the build quality, as well as the optical quality.
The seller has 100% feedback, which is reassuring. Tho he did put down Canon in the Brand category, which is likely a typo.
It looks like there is an A setting, but pix are too small to be certain.

It's the Chinese Mitakon 2/85mm. I started a thread about it earlier but it seems nobody here has been curious enough to buy one.

The Horusbennu 50mm f/1.7 is most likely built by Phenix in China - it's branded by Phenix iteself, and sometimes Sakar International (Vivitar), Promaster, Centon, etc.

The 85mm f/2 lens you are talking about is built either by Mitakon (Shenyang Mitacon Optical Electronic Co., Ltd) or SYZYGX in China, and is currently being sold by two different sellers based in Hong Kong on ebay with product photos branded by those two companies respectively.

There's been a discussion thread at mflenses.com talking about this lens. Reports are it has an 'A' setting on Pentax.

Mine is arriving at the end of the month. The lens has no A setting on the aperture ring on mine and operates like an M series lens.

I've one in the post, will update here with some pics when it arrives. Not expecting stellar performance, but it might be surprisingl decent as the optical design doesn't seem to be too crazy - and don't forget how well the Samyang 85mm seems to perform.

I think I mentioned them and linked some info in one of the threads earlier this year about the Sigma 85/1.4. I vaguely remember the optical formula being knocked off.

what do you mean knocked off? from which lens? from the looks of of the images, it looks like a planar clone. but I would like to see some samples from or very own here just to be sure.

to those of you who are going to buy the lens, can't wait for your reviews and samples.

hope to get the Sigma so that I can do one as well.

You should read the thread I linked to at mflenses.com, where a lot of this was already discussed, such as in aoleg's post: "The optical design of this Mitakon is a symmetric 6/6, so it's a double-Gauss, or Planar equivalent."

Probably a Zeiss T* 85/2 or Helios knock-off. It could even be a Nikkor or Rokkor knock-off. Red through the thread. I doubt there was a huge R & D behind this lens.

It doesn't need to be if they're reusing a Zeiss design.

Yup, as long as it works as good as the original. I wouldn't mind if they remake a 28/2, 85/1.4 or 1.8. if they make an AF, it's even better.
