Super-Tak 50mm/1.4 versus Leica Summilux 50mm

I thought to start a thread to compare these two lenses. The Super-Tak has been called Takulux for supposedly rendering very similarly to the Leica Summilux. I have both - the 1st version of the Super-Tak and the classical Summilux-R (not the super-rare last version) which I adapted using Leitax mounts.

The Summilux cost about 6 times more, but lets see how this is reflected in the pictures. Not everything may come through in this medium plus the way the pics look can be browser dependent I've found (viewed in my Firefox the images look much cooler than in Adobe Camera Raw), but we can try.

If people have images to share and comments/impression - that would be much appreciated!

To start off, a couple of pics of the bottle-brushes taken yesterday (both lenses wide open). Guess which is which!

The Bokeh on 1 and 3 don't look like my Tak, so I guess 2 and 4 are the Tak.

2 and 4 are just the 100% crops of 1 and 3. I would say the first pair is the Leica the second pair is takumar.

+1 for that. somewhere I read the taks were supposed to be warmer.

Also note, and I have repeated this before. At henry's in toronto there is an old time pentax shooter who told me once a customer who loved leica loaned him several lenses and he (pentax shooter) took comparative shots using both the Pentax and leica lenses. in each case the leica owner picked the pentax shots thinking they were from his leica lenses

After two serious guys voted I am not so sure anymore but before I was quite certain the first was leica and the second supertak. Hmmm....

Well, here's two more with the answers in file names...

Summilux did render better in the ones just above IMO. Super-Tak's bokeh is quite harsh by comparison. But of course with gentler light (like the first ones) the difference is much less obvious (at least to me). In fact in the very first picture bokeh looks smoother, doesn't it? So maybe I did mess up and it was the Summilux?? (sorry!).

I will try to do a portrait next!

I NEED TO PLAY WITH MY Super tak V1 (8 element more) the first image shows longitudinal CA Green halo around some OFF elements in Bokeh.

If I check my lens I'll tell you for sure

So, it's Leica followed by Super-Tak, both times, right? That would be my guess from the background blur.

I like the blur in the second shot of each set.

Yes, that's right. I happen to like the smoother blur of the summilux. Both have 6 blades, by the way.

Also the leica is a bit more contrasty (hence more 3-d). But there isn't that much between them, is there (considering the price difference)?

I would say the Takumar is on the cold side compared to my Sony lenses. Anyway, I actually like the bokeh from the 1st set in each sample, whatever that might be. A full brick shot with corner crop might be easier to determine the lenses. Personally, I'm not too familiar with either of these lenses to actually form an educated guess.

They both look too cold in the browser (especially the first set because of the reds I guess) but the colours are right (IMO) in Camera Raw. Not sure why but web browsers seem to render them differently...

So the second shot in each set is from the Leica? Interesting. I was wrong then.

I wasn't looking at the highlight shapes, but at the out of focus blur - that doesn't depend on the number of blades.

portraits

Some portraits. Taken in a hurry while meeting friends for lunch (apologies for the poor composition, etc). But hopefully the qualities of the two lenses shine through...
