Hi, JP. That is quite close to what I actually carry around. I carry five lenses and a TC. My Flickr site shows that the AFA 1.7X AF works very, very well indeed with the DA* 50-135. I would really rather have the FA* or A* 250-600 than the M 400, so that's the one I would cry about giving up at the end of it. The 1.7X and the M 400 really don't seem to get along, so I carry the 1.4X-S with the 400. Since I already own the first three lenses, they cannot take them away.

DA 12-24
DA* 16-50
DA* 50-135
+AFA 1.7X (with 50-135 = 85 - 230)
M100/4 Macro - rather have the DFA 100 WR, though!
M 400/5.6 - rather have the 250-600.

But I would not be able to give them back after only three years!!!!
I see you have a great kit already, Rockies!

It never donned on me that I could use the 1.7X Pentax adapter with the 50-135 actually but I already have a Tammy 70-200/2.8 which is quite good. Nonetheless, I don't own the 50-135 but I sure saw a lot of good reviews about it.

Also, when I was threading through here on this forum, I encountered a fellow's "long lens kit" which carried this FA*250-600 ... we all know who that is, don't we?
Anyway, this would be one lens I would seriously consider if, for one thing, money wasn't an issue, and that it would become available.

Giving up the 250-600 would literally kill me too!

Pleasure to read you again here!

Cheers.

JP

My choices would be:

When zooms are handy
DA* 16-50 F2.8
DA* 60-250 F4

When size matters
DA 15 F4 Limited
DA 40 F2.8 Limited
D-FA 100 F2.8 WR Macro

This would be a great setup for the K-5!

F 28mm F/2.8
A 50mm F/1.2
FA* 85mm F/1.4
DA* 50-135mm F/2.8
DA* 300mm F/4

This I suspect would last me forever, though I've never owned any of the five

(with extension tubes and reverse ring adapters of course )

My take would be as follows :

Three highly reputable zoom lens

DA* 16 - 50 f/2.8
DA* 50 - 135 f/2.8
Sigma 100 - 300 f/4

coupled with two primes

FA 50 f/1.4
FA 85 f/1.4

In many of the posts, the kit stops at 15mm, which I find is not wide enough. 15mm equates to just below 24mm FOF on a film camera, and I found 24mm on film was never wide enough.

For me I have a 10-20mm sigma, and I consider really a perfect kit, should cover down to 10-12mm at the wide end.

similairly, at the long end, I like 200mmF2.8, whether this is done with a zoom or prime, is up to th eindividual

what I am no t so sure about is the mix of primes and zooms in the middle, and the 50-135F2.8 zoom at all.

It would seem the OP may not need this lens.
