DA 35mm macro Focus Broken

So I'm not exactly sure how this happened. I was using the lens a moment before and then had it off while holding it in my lap. It wasn't being used but I was playing with the retractable hood and tugging at it (not too forcibly). Anyways, now the autofocus is broken (although I can manually focus) and it keeps 'whirring' attempting to focus but isn't able.
Is there anything I can attempt before trying to send this in to Pentax?
How much would this run me? T_T

Somehow the problem fixed on its own? It seems to be fine now.

Perhaps you hadn't twisted the lens all the way to it's locked position so that the screw drive mechanism couldn't engage?

Yep, I would guess the contacts were a wee bit off/dirty.

Glad to hear this wasn't our first screwdrive AF casualty - at least that I've heard of...
You should see a few more years (even lifetimes) out of that gem, so keep shooting.

Yeah I believe that was the case, not having it quite in the locked position.
