Hey guys. I've been thinking of expanding my kit to have an ultra wide angle without breaking the bank. I think I've settled on the rokinon/samyang 8mm fisheye. Why? Because apparently, with some PP magic, it's possible to get images from the 8mm fisheye that are almost identical to images from the 14mm rectillinar, on
full frame.
These images are not my own, but some I found on flickr (from a user Juan Antonio ) that conveniently demonstrate the focal length differences. Using PTlens, here are my results:
PTlens used with 136 distortion correction, 38 crop, and 3.5 horizontal shift.
Assuming that Mr Capó didn't crop his images, this is simply amazing to me. I believe the 8mm is so wide that it takes a healthy crop to get to 14mm on FF, and as such the resolution in the corners is decent.
Let me know what you guys think... yes it'll probably be annoying to have to process every image, but this really just adds to the versatility of the lens- fisheye when you want it, decent ultrawide angle when you need it.
