Sharpness/bokeh test various lenses

I was bored today, so I made a controlled environment with a tripod and strobe to test the sharpness and to see how well they process the bokeh. Every link is an unresized photo with confirmed focus in the middle

Every shot was at iso 100 at 5.6

The geek in me really enjoys looking over the results of other peoples time consuming tests and comparisons. Thanks for doing something useful (to me) when you are bored. Poor kit zoom didnt have a fighting chance though shot wide-open compared to primes stopped down. Maybe thats why you were crying?

I know you were doing bokeh.

An interesting tidbit of information for DOF would be how far forward and rear the bottles were to the tape measure. The focus point was the tape?

each bottle was about 2 inches thick, and the front of a bottle was parallel with the back of the bottle in front of it. The tape measure is also ~2" thick and has the same distance from the other bottle. On top of that, the keyboard spans the entire setup. The camera was ~3' from the setup and the hookah was ~3' behind the setup.

The tape was the focus point, and it is ~1cm from the Evan Williams Honey Reserve

Prox-iee, greetings from a former NH resident.

The focus on there shots appears to be in different places. Look at the Enter key on your keyboard - on the 18-55 shot it is sharper than on the Quantaray shot. Either your copy of 18-55 has FF, or you need to repeat the shoot... now let's see how much is left in these bottles by now

Yeah I noticed that. The DA had auto focus, and it was confirmed focus on the tape measure. The quantaray is also confirmed on the tape measure. I had it on AF.S mode so it wouldn't take the picture unless it was confirmed focus on the center =\

I think I know whats going on. The DA lens is build for crop sensors where the quantaray is built for FF. FF lenses on crop bodies have a bigger 'sweet sharp spot'
