Would be nice with a sweet video review of this lens

But... im soon to be ordering this lens myself, so i though we could have a thread to discuss it in.
Could be good for newcomers to, having questions about it.

Why not a text review? It focuses so quietly that you wouldn't hear or see much anyway

Agreeing with Adam... I read that review prior to buying my 18-135mm and it covered everything and had me convinced

I can't really think of anything that a video review would show that the text review hasn't covered already.

Since it's an IF lens, you won't see anything when focusing.. and the focus ring also doesn't move when it's focusing - in fact, it's free-spinning meaning you can rotate it forever

I suppose one way of making the OP possibly happy is if someone recorded at least the audio of the lens focusing... it's clearly noticeable when virtually everything is silent heh.

As much as a video review would be ok, I'm still waiting for some good text reviews with some stat's and examples. I really like Photozone.de's review format but it seems to be taking WAY to long to get his k-5 tests done.

Good informative reviews or not, my 18-135mm WR should be in this week, I made it my "kit lens" I figured why bother with the 18-55 paperweight when i can get an 18-135 for a good all around zoom. Now I can worry about what Primes I can afford to buy to please my LBA before my bank account bleeds.

does this lens has a zoom creep? if i facing camera down, will the lens extend because of it weight?

Well from what I've read on other forums the longer end range of the lens is its shortfall and having fairly heavy barrel distortion at 18mm and a decent amount of falloff at the corners/borders at the long end. I would really like to see some galleries of shots with this lens if not maybe I'll cancel it and get the 100 WR macro at least that is a tested and tried design re-wrapped in a WR body.

Unfortunately, photography is only a hobby of mine and work on weekdays takes up the most of my life

However, if someone doesn't beat me to it, I might take those distortion test photos with the lens on the weekend. I just got to remember where to find a printout of that thing. Anyone want to save me some time and link me?

On Flikr there is ONE photographer who has an album (his name is Digitalbear) and most of his shots are walk around scenic/architecture and some flowers etc.. not a bad assortment I guess but having a lack of users posting shots from this lens leads me to believe it may not be what its cracked up to be.

I am finding it to be quite high in the area of distortion. Shooting a lot of distant water line horizons has shown a significant amount through the full range of variable length shots.

Although I should be sleeping soon since I have work tomorrow, I still took some quick ad-hoc distortion test photos with my copy of the lens using the venetian blinds at home.

Here are the photos at various focal lengths.

@ 18mm

@ 31mm

@ 48mm

@ 60mm

@ 100mm

@ 135mm

It's pretty easy to see that the biggest amount of distortion is at 18mm. Everything else seems "reasonable" ... but that depends on the individual.
