Weird that all but one of the samples are at f/8 or smaller aperture. The whole point (for me at least) of a 24/1.4 are the capabilities from f/1.4-f/4, otherwise I might as well use one of the many good, cheaper, and smaller 24mm/2.8's.

The one shot at f/1.4 looks OK I guess, but it's really hard to tell optical quality from a shot like that. Meh...need more samples (of something other than the desert or a car).

Yes, but it's worth noting that the Nokton is a normal lens, not a wide angle. The equivalent in MFT world would be a 12mm lens.

Here are samples at all apertures from lenstip:

Samyang 24 mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC - sample images - Lenstip.com

It is sharp, but not amazingly sharp. CA looks very well controlled.

Thanks for the link...looks OK I guess, but not fantastic. Still, it's the only 24/1.4 option we've got...

For similar money there are FA* 24mm. IMHO probably one of the best 24mm lens on market.
Maybe it looks old fashion but optically is amazing.
I had one in very bad shape and bought another one in much better. Anyway, both gave me a lot of good pictures.

The lenstip review is out:

Samyang 24 mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC review - Introduction - Lenstip.com

The results are a sad story to be sure. I had greater expectations, especially after the delays.

Ya, wow:

QuoteQuote:
Pros:
very good image quality on stopping down the lens by 1.5 EV,
chromatic aberration well-controlled,
decent work against bright light,
well-corrected coma on APS-C/DX and smaller detectors.
Cons:
real aperture of the lens is much closer to f/1.8 than to f/1.4 or/and wrong conctruction of the diaphragm,
distortion level higher than in the case of its competitors,
slackened manual focus ring,
very high vignetting on full frame,
no contacts in the Canon mount version,
weak image quality by f/1.4 and f/2.0
The focus ring issue is a big turn off for me. After big excitement, looks like I will be looking at some other alternatives to fill the gap...

Good point - all of my (recent current model) samyang lenses seem to have great well dampened focus mechanisms that are extremely smooth with no slack at all. Maybe wait and see some more reviews and how they compare with each other...

True, but sheesh, I'd expect Samyang to be sending lens review companies only the best of samples. Perhaps there will be a recall/redesign like with the 14mm (which turned out well).

Good call, my mistake. There may yet be some interaction from Samyang ala the 14mm incident.

The IQ test's are probably correct, the focus ring thing does seem kind of odd though...

Lenstip has reviewed this lens:

Samyang 24 mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC - lens review - Lenstip.com

Not as good as previous entries in their line.

PS: Oops, I missed that this was posted earlier already.
