Bonsoir,

Back in June, I cornered a Pentax Rep and she said that a 18-200mm would be coming out soon (end of year 2011) plus a mirrorless product ... see: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-news-rumors/147766-pentax-rep-france-said-today.html

I was skeptical about this lens range, but if you look at the new roadmap, it's there ... bigger than Dallas, as we used to say down south!
Interesting that EPhotozine talks about an 18-200 too:

The lenses mentioned include the following (please note range estimated from picture above):
DA Standard 50mm lens
DA High Magnification Zoom Lens 18-200mm
DA Telephoto lens in the 500-600mm range
DA Zoom Limited
DA Wide Zoom
DA Tele Zoom in the 200-300mm range
DA 18-80mm Zoom

http://www.ephotozine.com/article/pentax-k-mount-lens-road-map-announced-18402

A constant aperture DA*18-80 would be smaller than a 16-85mm.

4 new K-01 lenses? Are they redesigning the whole DA Limited line to fit K-01?

And 645D Thethering, I think that would make a few people very happy lol

All good for each system - not much for APS-C at this stage but no doubt the road map plans will come to pass slowly over the next 18 months.

This is all VERY good !! ... from what I can see from the previous posts :

PENTAX smc DA 560 mm / 5,6
Langerwartetes Teleobjektiv für K-Bajonett für Sport und Naturaufnahmen
Markteinführung 2012

it should be released in 2012, right? (I don't know German).

This here: "smc PENTAX-DA 560mm F5.6
Unifocal super-telephoto lens for use with K mount interchangeable-lens digital cameras
Sharp, well-defined images — particularly with distant subjects — thanks to the adoption of optics used in astronomical telescopes
" , again very good, but what is this about the technology used in astronomical telescopes? What am I missing?

To summarize: a long awaited long tele lens for my NEEDS (vs. my "wants") albeit f5.6.
But, with the K5 it shouldn't matter much if one has to crank up the ISO a bit more.
I am now very familiar with the DA*300/4 and I am hoping that this will be just as good in IQ.
Another good thing: it sure won't be as expensive as the Sigma 500/4.5 I have been considering.

Good news ... good posts.

Thanks for sharing and posting, folks!

JP

Forgot this bit: "particularly with distant subjects " ... what else would you most of the time use a 560mm lens for?

Of course it will be f4 or f5.6 - nobody makes a 500/2.8 and if they did you'd need a car to carry it because you couldn't ! A 500/5.6 will be half the size and less than half the price of a 500/4 so my money is on the f5.6.
I agree with you here: less glass, lighter weight, less expensive and ... possibly: handholdable? (to some degree at least).

I am cautiously optimistic for a WR rendition for that lens.

Now, we just hope the IQ of the 560mm will be as good as that of my DA*300/4.

Cheers.

Which would be great (IQ-wise) but to make it affordable it would be non-WR and screwdriven AF. it'll give all the rival super telephotos a ru for their money ( and size).

This thread:https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-news-rumors/173969-pentax-550mm.html
has a lot of information regarding the 560mm lens, or whatever this will be.

There are already some negative comments on a yet-to-be-released and certainly not-yet-tested (is it even manufactured yet?) lens.

We will, as usual, have to wait until it is "beta"-released (prototype?) so we can make appropriate comments.

I am eagerly looking forward to see what this will actually be.

<sarcasam>Look, unless this 560mm is AT LEAST F2, weighs no more than 2.5 lbs, and is no longer than 1 inch exterior to the camera, this lens is simply unacceptable.</sarcasam>

WR for telephoto lenses is almost a "must", considering they are used in unfriendly environments rather frequently.
I sure wouldn't mind having it in a "screwdriven AF" build but being weather resistant would make it more appealing, to me at least.

I thought so !

At the very least, it should be pocketable.

Cheers!

The Q also has a standard lens, it means nothing for the possibility of a FF body.
Exactly. There are many references to 50mm lenses as standards, even now, years after APS-C has become the standard format for SLR photography. I would say it's a portrait / short tele prime, but it in no way indicates a FF body is on the way, that's just wishful thinking.

What's with the PF initial page claiming that the DAL 50mm f/1.8 does not replace the FA 50mm f/1.4 in the lineup? It clearly does. It's a cheaper alternative to the DA* 55mm.
