The Tamron version has a 6 year warranty.... That's my vote. It will be delivered to my door tomorrow. $449 including delivery from ibuydigital.com

~~ Edit: IBuyDigital.com is not a dealer that I would recommend. Read my thread if you want to see why:

People say they are the same lens, but every example I see from the Tamron seems better than those from the Pentax. Maybe it's the lens, maybe it's the photog, who knows.

From what I have read, the coating may be different - but Tamron's coating is probably nearly the same. I don't think that there is much more difference than the branding.

I like the cool gold trim! It matches my DA*50-135!

examples

Quickly taken, handheld examples of the Tamron 18-250 at 250mm below. Excellent lens - haven't seen/tested the Pentax, but after shooting outdoors with the Tamron for a couple days, it's hard to see how the Pentax version could perform any better.

The Tamron coating is about the same as SMC, also, as far as I can determine.

Both of these are uncropped, and I think the first is slightly sharped in picasa, the second is untouched.

If you could zoom in to his eyes, you'd actually see my reflection and make out the circle of the lens pointing at him. Amazing sharpness/resolution at 250mm. Rivals some of my primes.

I see that jsherman999 has posted a couple of nice photos that show examples of the quality at 250mm. Does anyone have any other samples of the Tamron at the 18mm (or thereabouts) extreme?

I was almost going to pick the Tamron 28-70 F/2.8 lens as my next choice but now you have me thinking and I'd like to see a few more samples before I decide.

Sorry if this is hijacking a thread but I was hoping it could maybe help others in their decision as well .

Thanks again...Sprags

I think you've convinced me that the 18-250 is the one for me.

The wife got it at Bealls Department Store you have a few there where you live, It's a motorized one the head goes down and the wings go up and it light up real neat, they also have a gator that wags it's head and tail and light it for christmas also, but you will have to wait till next x-mas season I'm sure.
We come over your way every year for the Free Jacksonville Blues Festival on the beach the first weekend in April, we stay at the Courtyard Jacksonville Mayo Clinic/Beaches.. they have a great rate for the blues visitors.

Make sure you get it from a store that gives you the 6 year warranty. It may cost a little more but it's better than the one year one.

Hi Fl_Gulfer

Wow, that almost reminds of the genuine article.......it's just sooooooo lifelike, you could almost reach out and touch it. I can't help wondering if 'real' flamingos light up like that after dusk in the Ngorongoro Crater ? Now that WOULD be a sight for sore eyes !!!!!!

Best regards
Richard
