DA70 vs FA77 - after new price increase

There are already enough threads on "DA70 vs FA77" and one major consideration was price - DA70 was almost $240 cheaper than FA77.

However now after the new price hike today, both the lenses are close in price,

DA 70 : $544.95 -> $699.95
FA 77 : $784 -> $784

do you think it will influence the buying decision between both the lenses? Just wondering...

Yusuf

It surely will. I love my 77. Not that I have experience the 70- I have the 40 though and the 77 is definetly in a different league to that.
Quick shift focus is a plus for the 70 though.

Well I got my 70 used for 400, so that decided it for me. If I were to buy new, today, I would buy the 77 for the speed and the legendary reputation. I am, however, very happy with my da70. It is my new favorite lens.

For some... Yes... For you, probably not since your sig indicates you currently own a 77.

Keep in mind they are very different lenses with unique personalities. The 70, optimized for digital, can be brutally sharp; the 77 a film lens, has subjective 'pixie dust' qualities and can be less so...

Both are technological masterpieces when paired to a K-5 and carefully employed by an accomplished photographer.

Cheers... M

If you want the speed and shallow DOF, get the FA77. If you want the tiny size, get the DA70. If you want maximum resolution, get the Sigma 70/2.8 macro, although all three are quite sharp.

If you don't plan to use f1.8-f2.4 often, DA70 maybe better choice - ..regarding the new price - you can always buy DA70 here on marketplace,as well as FA77...

Looking at the items our members have bought at B&H so far this month, there are no DA lenses- only FA limiteds

So yes, I think you're right. Discounted FA limiteds are better than MSRP DA limiteds.

I have the DA70 and I love it. That said, if you can get the extra speed for less than a hundred bucks go for it.

I was originally planning to buy a DA 70 later this spring.
After the foolishness on April 1, when Brick & Mortar raised their prices,
I hurried up and bought one from Amazon for $545.

It's more likely that they will increase FA lens prices too, no FF for us

With the price increase, this is a no-brainer... FA 77 hands down.
