Current K-mount Full-Frame Lenses

OK, so this seems to come up every few days or so - for some reason there seems to be a thought that there's not a lot of pentax full-frame glass that you can buy off the shelf.

There's a a great thread here from falconeye about what Pentax DA lenses are suitable to be used on FF - but for now I'm going to limit this list to three (edit: four) rules:

1) The lens has to be currently manufactured in K-mount (no discontinued lenses)
2) The lens must have, at some point, been described as full frame by the manufacturer/retailer. Patents count.
3) Must be available from a 'normal' retailer. No special-order 50mm f/1.2.
4) Must be a 'normal' (wish I could come up with a better word) lens. This list is not intended to include special purpose lenses, like pinhole, mirror, etc., lenses. Those lenses are nice but auxiliary to a 'system'.
5) Added Feb 19 2013 - must not have failed tests specifically designed to see if the lens is 36x24. This was added due to recent PF tests showing the 60-250 and 560 having severe vignetting.

Pentax:

  1. FA 31mm f1.8 Limited
  2. FA 35mm f2.0
  3. FA 43mm f1.9 Limited
  4. DFA 50mm f2.8 macro
  5. FA 50mm f1.4
  6. DA 50mm f1.8 (caveat: described as FF by retailers and seems to perform as FF lens. Unknown if Pentax told retailers it was FF.)
  7. FA 77mm f1.8 Limited
  8. DFA 100mm f/2.8 macro
  9. DA* 300mm f4

A Honorable mention to 35mm f2.4
B Honorable mention to 40mm f2.8, with most saying it is close to full-frame performance
C Honorable mention to 55mm f1.4
D Honorable mention to 200mm f2.8? Has this ever been described as full frame?
E Future possibility for 14-28 on roadmap . Seems unlikely if reports of patent being for APS-C are true.
F Future possibility for 24-75 on roadmap
G Future possibility for 100-400 on roadmap

2012/02/19: Possibility of 560mm removed
2012/02/19 DA* 60-250 f4 removed
Sigma
10. 15mm f2.8
11. 20mm f1.8
12. 24mm f1.8

15. 50mm f1.4
16. 50mm f2.8 macro
17. 70mm f2.8 macro
18. 85mm f/1.4
19. 300mm f/2.8
20. 500mm f/4.5

21. 12-24 f/4.5-5.6
22. 24-70 f/2.8
23. 70-200 f/2.8
24. 70-300 f4-5.6 DG Macro/ 70-300 f4-5.6 APO Macro/ 70-300 f4-5.6 OS (Surely all three of these aren't still sold?)
25. 120-400 f4.5-5.6
26. 150-500 f5-6.3 DG APO OS HSM
27. 50-500 f/4.5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM

29. 28-300mm f3.5-6.3
30. 28-75mm f2.8 XR Di LD-IF
31. 70-200 f2.8 'macro'
32. 70-300 f4-5.6 'Macro'

33. 14mm f/2.8
34. 24mm f/1.4
35. 35mm f/1.4
36. 85mm f/1.4

Phoenix

37. 28-210 f/4.2-6.5
38. 19-35 f/3.5-4.5 (actually two, manual and autofocus)

Lensbaby
I'm not going to put these on the list. I don't know how many are actually different lenses vs. different 'packages' of the same lens. They appear to be advertised as FF.

Schneider
39. 90mm f/4.5 T/S
40. 50mm f/2.8 T/S

Zeiss/Voigtlander
Some are available but these lenses are discontinued as per Digitalis.

Toy/Pinhole Lenses:
See posts by RioRico below.

For reference, from the two major Pentax mount producers I see:

Pentax:
9 current lenses.
4 more currently described APS-C lenses work well on FF.
3 lenses on roadmap might be FF.
Primary weaknesses: Primes below 31mm, mid-range zoom (assuming the 24-75-ish lens on roadmap is not FF), wide angle zoom (assuming the 14-28-ish lens on roadmap is not FF, )telephoto zoom. No primes between 100 and 200. Nothing above 300.

Sigma: 17 current lenses
Primary weaknesses: No primes between 85 and 300. Nothing above 500.

Edit 8/22/2014: Removed Sigma / 70-300 f4-5.6 APO Macro/ 70-300 f4-5.6 OS. Added Sigma 35mm F/1.4.

You missed the Pentax Wide Angle 35mm f/2.0 SMCP-FA AL Autofocus Lens 22190 B&H - it's still in production. Also, the DA 40mm is supports full-frame (though it has never been described as such by Pentax, as per your criteria).

I see three at Adorama (25, 28, 50) and five at BH (25, 28, 35, 50, 85) but these are discontinued, correct?
correct - Also voigtlander has stopped production of K mount lenses as well, though there should be a few of them floating around on the second hand market.

The list looks longer than it really is, because the Bower and Vivitar lenses are just rebadged versions of the Rokinons (better: Samyang).

The problem with pentax having no current FF lenses wider than the FA31 is that the FA31 is a really hard act to follow up on, it is a phenomenal lens.

I didn't know that they were the same lens. I've changed the list. Are any of samyang's lenses current? All I can find now is a 8.5mm - I don't know if it's FF - and a 500mm mirror lens that I wasn't planning on listing.

They should all be current.

According to Photozone (Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye (Canon EOS) - Review / Test Report):
"The Samyang 8mm f/3.5 is a dedicated full frame fisheye lens for APS-C DSLRs. You can also mount it to a full format (35mm) DSLR but the build-in lens hood will be visible in the image field in this case."

I should've referred to the brand of Samyang. When I search I get either the 8.5 or the 500. I thought there's been a 85 "samyang" (now I'm doubting myself, perhaps they're all branded as Rokinon?).

Thanks, I'll leave it off the list.

It may depend on the market. Amazon US has Rokinon,
while Amazon UK has Samyang:
Amazon.co.uk: samyang lens

How difficult would it be to get the FA 28/2.8 as well as the FA 20/2.8 cranked back up?

Are other oddments and toys. Let's see, what can I dig up on my ultra-slow net link and ancient mini-laptop...

Ok, from Loreo in PK mount are:

* Loreo 3D Lens-In-A-Cap
* Loreo 3D Macro Lens-In-A-Cap
* Loreo 35/5.6-64 Lens-In-A-Cap (for dust-free near-pinhole at f/64 -- I might get one)
* Loreo 35/11-22 PC Lens-In-A-Cap (perspective-control shift lens -- I have this one with me)

From PinholeEdun are pinhole and zone-plate 'optics' in PK, M42, Pentax 645 and 67 mounts. NOTE: I hate my PK PinholeEdun, the dust monster.

From Holga in PK mount are:

* Holga 60/8 Lens - HL-P (I'm tempted)
* Holga ~45/180 pinhole lens - HPL-P

All these are listed as FF items, all are in production, all meet your criteria. (And I've skipped the LensBabies.)
