Pentax vs. Tamron 18-250

I've read quite some arguments whether the Pentax 18-250 is made by Pentax or not.
Just came across this thread.

According to the poster Pentax replied (5th post) that the 18-250 is not actually made by Pentax......

I think all of the data indicate that a DA 18-250 is essentially a rebadged Tamron 18-250. While there may (or may not) be differences in coatings formulations, the performance difference between the two is likely to be minimal (posted photos suggest such is the case).

All of this is wide of the point - the key is that this lens (with either label) is darned good for what it costs. I've got the Pentax version but had I realized that Tamron offers a longer warranty, I'd have bought it.

Either way, I think that the 18-250 is a very useful lens.

Hit the nail squarely on the head. For the range of the lens the quality and the cost it's great. I would recommend it to anyone considering the kit lens and the DA 50-200mm.
