Lens comparison- which is which

Tess and I were side by side, me with my DA* 60-250... her with her brand spanking new Sigma 18-250 which weighs and feels about the same as an 18-135. So here is the deal, we bought the Sigma because it has the reputaion of being the only super zoom that's strong in the long end. So we wondered if anyone could tell the difference. This isn't a definitive comparison, both cameras were hand held, but still, inquiring minds want to know how a $1500 lens compares to a $500 lens with more range and much more compact size.

Which is the DA* 60-250....

Lens A

Or lens B

To be fair. I don't know myself, its a double blind, so my typing won't give away which one is which... so ....... what say you Pentaxians?

They are both really great shots! Personally I think the bottom one is sharper, and just overall better, but very marginally.

I'm guessing you were standing to the right of Tess.
But you may remember which side,
in which case you do know which is which.

It's hard to tell when both pics are so heavily post processed.

Different DOF, different apertures. The lower one was shot at the larger aperture, the top one at the smaller aperture with more DOF which should help it look sharper. But the bottom one wins regardless. I agree with the majority, the 1st one is got to be the Sigma - please.

The first one shows more PP contrast and is has more saturated colors.
From the OoF zone on the upper left, I guess the 2nd one should be the DA* lens but I donīt think this scene has any feature that would show the difference. Less so after such heavy PP.

I tend to agree with the majority...second photo is the DA*
And I also agree they are both beautiful shots...great work.
I look forward to the final answer...may cause an uproar in LBA land!
Cheers

Yeah, the Bokeh of the upper one gives the Sigma away, like your earlier snake photo. I'm all in.

looking at the bokeh I'm inclined to agree with the others, the top image has nisen bokeh(double lines) which is characteristic of a under-corrected lens - which is more likely to occur with the Sigma 18-250mm lens than the pentax DA*60-250mm lens. I actually didn't pay much attention to the subject.

Good practical real world comparison. The bottom image is certainly sharper but not having used either lens all I am prepared to say is; regardless of the answer I would be perfectly happy with the Sigma and $1000 in my pocket.
