The lens fits my K100D Super with 3/8ths of an inch to spare!
I tried to edit my original post but I guess it didn't work.

Lens is wide and all metal so small hands might have a hard time focusing and focusing is a task to begin with! This is not a lens for a quick got to have it image!

Here are two out of my first five images, both jpegs right out of the camera(I did "auto fix" the Robin and it just seemed to lighten it a smidge).

My setting were ( not certain and i'm sure most of you will correct me if i'm wrong)
ISO 400
"M" setting
"sunny" WB
and a tripod of course

I "shot" the neighbors car with my range finder and it is 246.5 feet away.....it was also in the shade, think the image was 1/100th of a second.

First the Robin and i'm guessing (not a guess anymore) it was 166 feet away (shot the area with my range finder thus the reason for the edit)

One more thing.

My first images came from a lens that was not acclimated!

I took my rig out of the house at 70 degrees and started shooting almost instantly and there was a 15 degree difference in temperature. I should of let the lens cool down, I know better than that.
The "window" shot was after the lens cooled down so it might be a better reference, there is also a screen on the window if it happens to look a little soft.

Congrats on the New lens, Ray. Your shots look great, especially if you didn't adjust the contrast/curves. Many mirror lenses suffer from low contrast, this doesn't seem to be the case with yours. Could you post some 100% crops for sharpness evaluation, please.

Okee dokee......I think this is way more than 100% and it was also before the lens cooled down (my focus was not spot on either), I will reimage again tomorrow.

I did push the in camera sharpness and contrast a bit but did not do any post processing.

It's funny how I just skipped over the last shot and it turned out to be the best of the bunch.

I did have the contrast and saturation turned up "in camera" but otherwise the images are untouched jpegs right out of the camera.

The camera and lens will be set up and pre-focused on my bird feeders about 70 ft from my special hiding place...........really the only way you can (maybe it's just me) use a lens like this, very hard to focus.

I'm starting to get excided about the lens after viewing the "tractor cover" image.

I have been looking for actual shots of the Rubinars/MTOs on a Pentax camera for a while.

I am now even more tempted to get one of the 500mm Rubinars (thinking of the 5.6?) - The understanding I have is that the Rubinars are slightly higher quality than the MTOs, and both blow away the Phoenix/Samyang lenses which are the only other mirros that are produced as new units. I have also seen that some people feel that many "not-so-hot" Rubinars can be fixed by loosening a few screws (google for "Rubinar" and "relax" or "relaxed".)

Does anyone else here have experience with any of the 500mm Rubinars? f/5.6 or f/8? It is too bad Rubinars and MTOs have skyrocketed in price, giving one a try at their prices 3-4 years ago would have had little to no risk, but they're over double what they used to be.

Weather has been terrible!

I took this image earlier today, very overcast and dark outside (1/40th of a second ).

Bird feeder at 48 ft. I'll try again tomorrow, suppose to be sunny.

Finally got some sun and a chance to use ISO200 on this beast.

I took a few of these this morning when sun was pretty good, and some later in the day when a few clouds and some shade made me lower the shutter speed.

Focusing is a chore, so if you aren't shooting a stationary object or not set up in a blind and keyed in on a particular area the lens is a PITA to focus. If you will notice I did a better job focusing on some images than others.

All images were shot at ISO 200 and are Jpegs right out of the camera, only thing I did was to max out the contrast and shapness in camera with no other PP or cropping done at all.
