Very nice. Between you and Mike, I am pondering this lens. Not so much for the 5O side of it, but for the constant F/2.8 part. What is DOF like at F/4.0 and F/5.6?
I have also considered the 17-50...more than once! The main thing that has tempered the urge is the short throw for manual focus. I just can't ditch the urge to do it myself...

Jarvier, the first shot is @ f 4.5, 1/40th, ISO 400. The 2nd shot is @ f 5.6, 1/20th, ISO 320. The 3rd shot is @ f 5, 1/20th, ISO 320. I was sure I have a shot of this series @ f4, but will need to dig deeper in my disks to find one I guess.

Monochrome: JT - just want to say you are one of the nicest posters on the Forum and I look forward to your images and insights. I can even appreciate the Red Sox emblem for your pride in them, despite our enduring pain over 2004
Thank you, so much, for the kind words. My love for the Red Sox was inculcated upon me as a young boy by my dad & his dad: it is a treasure they gave me---I shall not cash it in. Their ups & downs, for me anyway, more accurately portray life than, say, the New York Yankees. This is as far as I'll go here--do not want to stir this pot up too much. What about the 1967 pain from which all of New England is still recovering?

Steve, you are right on when speaking of the 17-50's manual focus throw. It is not an ideal setup, particulalry for those of us who love to manual focus. That said, I do enjoy success using my 17-50 in manual focus mode, though the joy in doing so nowhere near comes to that experienced when I, say, move my Auto Takumar 1.8 85mm's manual focus mechanism.

I was 12 - my mother took me to the ballpark with two folding chairs and we sat up all night to get bleacher seats. I think of that summer as the end of innocence - probably for all of us. :ugh:

You have coaxed some beautiful images out of your cameras today. I just acquired an Auto-Tak 55/1.8 (from the Takumar thread) but I haven't had a roll of film in the K that came with it yet. I have a high standard to acheive as of today.

All of the dance photos I have posted from it have been at f5.6. Here's a shot with a bit more front-to-back to it so you can judge better:

Just got back from a family reunion in South Carolina. Got to shoot my Step Dad's 1954 Morgan--he put 7 years of resorative work into it--he did a great job. He & I have worked on restoring British sports cars for over 20 years now. Thought I'd share a little of this: 2 shots with the Tammy 90mm & 2 shots from the Tammy 17-50mm.

Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 Macro. 640 ISO, f/2.8, 1/800s, 200mm. I also bought a 28-75 f/2.8 just today from another member on this forum, can't wait for that to arrive within the next couple days.

Would really love to see some shots with it, when you can manage.

Tamron SP 80-200mm 2.8
Just when I wanted to replace my big and heavy Vivitar 100-300mm f5 manual focus lens with a lighter auto focus tele, I found this heavier, bulkier and manual focus lens for a price I couldn't pass

Edit: sorry for big images, should've uploaded smaller size to flickr, now there's only this size or much smaller 500x334

F5 1/640 200mm

F2.8 1/250 200mm

F2.8 1/160 200mm
