DIY: 1930 Zeiss-Ikon folding camera on a K200D (K-mount)

I believe I may have created the most unique Pentax macro "lens" on the planet. Nerd factor is off the charts.

It's a 1930 Zeiss-Ikon Maximar 207/3 with a 105mm Zeiss Tessar f/4.5 lens. The innards of a cheapo 2x teleconverter were taken out to make a combination mount and extension tube (to clear the pentamirror) that was affixed to a modified film holder. The film holder is removable from the camera. My first (handheld) quick 'n dirty shots with the lens:

Need to try it with a "real" macro setup (external flash, tripod mounted, mirror up (2 sec. self-timer), and most of all CLEAN THE LENS.

Nice conversion! Can you get infinity with this setup?

is the lens big enough to cover the APS-C image circle? if it's much bigger, would be a fun tilt shift lens

The camera is a Maximar 207/3 and the lens was designed to cover a 6x9cm negative. APS-C coverage is not a problem.

Yes, I originally began the project hoping to achieve infinity focus with the rise/fall and side-to-side adjustments (that the Maximar give me). However, the front of the pentamirror on the K200D protrudes, which means you need to put an extension off the back of the film back. This adds to the amount of back focus needed to achieve infinity. I might be able to shave 6mm more (or so) off of it before the back starts scraping the front of the pentamirror housing (when mounting the lens).

But to achieve infinity, the lens must be almost back into the "box" (meaning that you can't do the front standard adjustments as you can with the lens extended).

Basically, you have to add the original film plane to the sensor image plane and then try to get that much back travel on the front lens position. Once you move the lens back off of the original front track, you lose the ability to focus with the original Zeiss-Ikon focus knob.

Have you considered removing the film box entirely? You may then be able to mount your extension (with the K mounting) in line with the rear of the bellows, sort of a reverse lens board. This would move the sensor closer to where the film plane should be.

If you countersink the extension you can probably line up the sensor with the original film plane exactly.
