Red "SMC" Lettering on Lens???

Saw something different today...

Can anyone explain what is up with an "SMC Pentax M" lens where the "SMC" is printed in red?

Thanks.

Wild stab in the dark: some guy who likes the red lettering on some Zeiss lenses takes a red sharpie to his Pentax. Or, some guy who likes red lettering on some Honda Civic Type-R's takes a red sharpie to his Pentax. Or, some guy who thinks he can pull a fast one on eBay takes a red sharpie to his Pentax. Something like that.

No secret now I guess... Yes, it was on the 'Bay.

I found NOTHING about such a thing anywhere online, I had to suspect something was wrong. I found the Zeiss, nothing Pentax. I'm not up to call out someone's ad, you can probably find it easy enough. It was a 1.4 / 50mm for a price that is not out-of-line for the lens itself.

the seller says its a 'special' version of the SMC coating and that he has seen this red lettering before on 'Pentax-M 1.4/50, 2/55, and 1.8/55'. I have never seen or heard of this and so far cant find any info on any special version of the smc coating. I know of the 'ghostless' coating and I also know that the smc-AF 35-70mm 2.8 for the ME-F had a special deep red smc coating but I have never heard about this. Im actually quite intrigued and looking at the photos it looks as though the red lettering is 'professionally' applied. at the moment I remain highly skeptical but will not rule out any truth. I have inquired to the seller for more information, well see what comes of it.

$125.00 is not insane for a mint 1.4 anyway... Still, how come none of the experts here or elsewhere online make a mention? A mystery.

that's the reason I am more intrigued, because the price is about spot on for an smc-M 1.4 50mm. seems kind of odd for such a 'rare' lens.

I certainly don't need it either but I will buy this and sell my 1.7 if he can definitively prove its authenticity.

I was not able to find anything about limited edition Pentax-M red-letter lenses. They may exist, but it seems sort of strange that he claims to have a red-letter Pentax-M 55/2 as well. There is no such beast as a Pentax-M 55/2 (or 55/1.8 for that matter).

Price seems a little high to me...but then again, I'm pretty cheap.
