I just ordered a Rokinon 500mm F6.3 mirror lens from Overstock for $119.00

I think it should do pretty well on the moon/astrophotography since it is essentially a small catadioptric telescope. Now I just need a decent tracking mount for long exposures

K-x with Tair 3PhS + x2 Russian teleconverter on Photosniper stock leaning against the car.
No stacking, cropped to some degree and sharpened a bit.

I received my Rokinon 500mm F6.3 mirror lens today. I'm actually impressed with the build quality and the optical coatings for such a cheap lens (I paid $119.00).

I only got to use it for about 2 minutes between clouds tonight, so I don't have any good pictures.

I know this is a Moon thread, but I won't have a moon to shoot for a few days at least. So, here is a quick shot I took of Jupiter. Note, this is over exposed and I didn't have much chance to fool around with settings because of the clouds. This will give you some idea of scale size with a 500mm lens though.

100% crop

I think this lens has some potential. When I have a clear night, I'm going to try shooting at higher exposures to bring out the moons, then shoot a series of lower exposures for Jupiter itself and stack them. I think with this lens, I should be able to get nice detail and banding on Jupiter itself. We'll see.

Well I finally had a decent night to shoot a couple of moon pics with the Rokinon 500mm F6.3 mirror lens.

It is a little hard to get a good focus as a very small amount of movement makes the image out of focus. I use live view at 10X to try to get a decent focus.

I didn't get it just right yet, but here is what I have so far. The first shot is of the full moon itself.

And this is a 100% crop of the image. I didn't want to put the full image up since it would be too large and you'd have to scroll around. 500mm makes a pretty large image scale on the APS-C size sensor! Note, either I didn't get the focus quite right, or it might be a bad night for "seeing", I don't really know as I didn't spend much time out side (too cold).

May I join in? My Pentax K200D + Tamron SP 350 mm f/5.6 (Model 06B) + Tamron 01F Teleconverter + Tamron SP F-series Teleconverter provided this on 9 April 2011:

Total focal length is 1400 mm; 10 images at 1/´6 sec and 10 images at 1/10 sec stacked in Registax. The image is un-cropped. Click on image to see larger version.

Speaking about Registax:

There are a great many manuals out there on the internet. Just Google registax + tutorial and you will find them. Here is a very straigthforward one to get started:
