Good news for macroists

I sent emails to Sigma USA, Sigma UK, Sigma France, Sigma Germany asking why the 150mm DG APO Macro EX HSM doesn't exists for Pentax.

Sigma Uk answered this :

Dear Sir

Sigma Japan have informed us that there is plans to produce this lens in a Pentax fitting but have given us no release dates.
Kind Regards

Smaller and lighter than the 180mm, this 150mm is ideal I think.

I have used this lens on canon 5D for years. A great lens really. Impeccable colour, contrast and resolution.

So this will be a great news!

Hurrah!, Sigma finally coming to their senses, now for them to have the 4.5mm, 8mm, 300mm F2.8, 800mm and of course the bazookma (aka 200-500mm F2.8) with a Pentax mount. And of course put their prices back to the level of 2008!

It's also 2/3 stop faster, if I remember the apertures correctly.

Funny, just the other day I was looking through Sigma's online catalogue and wondered why this lens wasn't offered for Pentax. While the 180mm doesn't really interest me, the 150mm could make it's way into my bag if the price was right.

Thanks for enquiring!

Good question. If not, then I wouldn't buy it.....The Tamron 90mm macro was going to be my macro purchase,...what an incredibly sweet, sweet lens...but, I am worried about the subject to camera distance. Frankly not that impressed with the IQ of the Sigma 180mm and it's bulk, this 150mm better be good. Otherwise I would have to folk out the cash for the VL 125/2.5, or Tamron 90mm and try not to scare the bugs away.

I find the IQ of the Sigma 180mm to be nothing short of stunning. The 150mm would be interesting, but I think only a weather-sealed macro lens could tear me away from the 180mm. I'd never use the HSM, so that would be a wasted feature on a macro lens for me.

I did a search of your flickr images for sigma 180mm. WOW!, there are some stunning images in there...I stand corrected.

Don't get excited, I asked the same question 8 months ago and was told a release date would be announced at Photokina.
When it was not I emailed again and got the same response you just had.

I have since emailed again with the same answer.

This is great news and perhaps fulfills my number one wish in lenses. I could not understand why Sigma did not offer this lens. A friend of mine shoots the 180mm 3.5 on her D200, and it works great, but user reviews show the 150mm is not only faster (f2.8)but also more highly rated. I am getting in line now. Check out the review rating here FM Reviews - 150mm f2.8 APO Macro DG EX HSM

Mighty impressive when you figure there are 86 reviews and the lens still maintains this high a score.
