DA 10-17mm Fisheye: filter possible

Perhaps this is already known, but just in case:

You can screw in standard 58mm filters into the hood of the DA10-17 fisheye.
I have tested this with a 58mm polfilter and it works.
The lens shows no vignetting from 14-17mm.
Vignetting depends on the barrel extension of the filter.

I would imagine you'd also need t be careful how far you screw the filter in. The front element extends pretty far out at the centre relative to the circumference of the element.

I'm not sure how much advantage there would be to adding a filter though, unless you have a specific need i suppose.

the only need I can think of is protection.

Also, polarizing a 10mm lens is bound to get uneven polarization across the image, right? Wouldn't some parts of the sky appear more dark than others?

So I just picked up a DA 10-17 FE and a forum search brought me here... great idea, I think I will try and fit an adapter/step ring on the outside of the barrel and avoid vignetting that way.. I'll have to pull out the calipers and start measuring etc..
CPL's could leave a weird sky effect, but I'm thinking more for ND's for long exposures and ND grad's for shooting in the snow and on ski hills etc. I always wanted to start spending $100's or so per filter.. damn.. but I got away with lots of 49mm stuff for long enough I guess.
