Sigma 10-20 vs. Pentax 12-24 @ Night

I took some sample shots the other night in my neighborhood. I've got both lenses for 14 days, trying to decide which one I want to keep. The reviews were just so confusing and hard to read--honestly, both seemed like great lenses.

However, I took these shots with a light pole in it testing some lens flare for night shots. Is what's seen in the Sigma shot normal? The Pentax behaved as I expected.

Thanks.

I have the Sigma 10-20, and I cannot recall ever needing to shoot right at a street light. I have seen many night time cityscapes from this lens, and with that practical use, flare does not seem to be a big issue.

First off - If you are going to compare these two lenses I would use the same focal length and exposure. The Pentax was 12mm F8 at 10 sec and the Sigma was 10mm F4 and 4 sec. This is not really a fair comparison. I would set the Sigma to 12mm F8 and 10 sec and repeat the test.

Agreed, aperture plays a BIG role in flare control.

The Sigma shot almost looks like you zoomed while the shutter was open.
I agree with previous comments, you haven't done a comparison at all.

Are you going to be using these two lenses in this condition all the time? If not try more lighting ideal conditions and see how you like the way the lenses render. My guess would be owing to the SMC most would like the Pentax better.

Agrees with previous posters...compare at exact settings, tripod, timer, etc. It looks like the Sigma is out of focus, zoomed in and an overall poorly chosen photo as example.

Yea. My sigma is even better than pentax 12-24mm. That doesnt look normal at all.
And all revies what i have seen, claims that sigma has great flare control, even better that nikon 12-24mm and canonīs 10-20mm.
