Fixed the 18-55.

The one that got dropped onto concrete by my mom.

Turns out the focus ring was binding because of the way the filter frame bent. Busted the rest of the glass out of the filter and got the frame off with a pair of pliers. The lens now works (mostly) fine, front barrel is a tad loose though - more so than I remember.

At least I have a walkaround lens again, the 70-300 wouldn't cut it for that.

Goes to show how well it's built for being of a plastic construction, though. Five foot drop onto concrete with the camera attached, and both still work...

No before pics. Picture the 18-55 lens with a UV filter on it that is bent down slightly and the glass having 3 almost parallel cracks all the way across it.

I figured the focus binding was something internal being misaligned in the lens. I only took the filter off so I could see if it'd still take a decent picture at all - once I got the damaged filter off, the focus bind was gone.

What's left of the filter:

No, that bend didn't come from removing it.

Wow. It's pics like these that make me believe in UV 'protection' filters.

Well, the wrong believe in my opinion, better use the lens hood.

She bought me two lenses to replace one. I think that's good enough. Filters are cheap.
