Ha! I am on a first name basis with several of the more experienced salesmen there!

Enjoy! I love my 50-135. Now I just need to sell my ist DS2 and kit lens to lessen the blow for eventually buying the 16-50.

DA* 50-135 as a macro ?

We went for a drive along Hartley Lake/Sulphur Springs Road Saturday last. As I occasionally do, I stuck with one single lens for the whole day. The road mentioned is about 70 km (40 mi) of gravel, dirt and occasionally mud caused by the recent thunderstorms. I've not been one to avoid stressing lenses out by making them try things they are not meant to take on, such as taking pictures of tiny butterflies (about 3/4 inch/ 19mm long) with a lens that won't focus any closer than 1 meter (1.1 yards). Here is the full frame, and the 100% crop of the little critter. This also shows why the DA* 50-135 is a wonderful lens to use.
K10D, 135mm, ISO 100, 1/320 @ f/4. It was very cloudy at the time. A little later I will put a series from the drive on my Flickr site, and then post the link.

About eight months ago I bought a DA* 50-135mm from a local Kijiji ad for CDN$650 with the intent to re-sell it for a profit. I had, at the time, convinced myself that this particular lens didn't "fit" with my current kit since I already carried a nifty-fifty and a 135mm in my bag. That and it was too bulky and the profit could go towards something else down the road... for a while I didn't use the lens since I would, of course, resell it and didn't want to perhaps tease myself with lens I knew I wouldn't be keeping. But, every once in a while I'd put it on my K20D and be like, "Y'know, this is really nice".

Finally, it took a week-long trip to Vancouver to force me to admit to myself that I would be keeping the lens. Spent most of the time there, shooting wide open and being blown away at the results... sample shots below...

16-50 and 50-135

These two lenses have quickly started becoming my favorites!

The 50-135 has to be the best zoom I have ever used!

DA* 16-50 is a superb event lens, in my opinion

Although the occasion was bittersweet, the Celebration of Life for my brother who succumbed to cancer in May. Jack and Glenda split their time between Maui, Hawaii and Gabriola Island, British Columbia. I used my K10d and DA* 16-50/2.8 and no other combinations even though I carried four lenses with me, and also my AF 540 FGZ flash, that I did not use either.

Here is a link to a web site I made with 27 of my images. The entire set was taken with the K10d and minimum ISO that made sense. At least half my pictures from the weekend were taken at ISO 100, although I did go as high as ISO 800 at times. I think this shows just how versatile this lens is. Comments are welcome.

Battle of Britain display with the DA* 300mm

It is the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, and these were taken at a concert/display held at Chartwell, the former home of Sir Winston Churchill.
