Simon, I think you're confused here; do you mean the Voigtlδnder 50mm f/1.1, or the 55mm f/1.4? The former was only made in Leica M mount AFAIK (and costs a lot less than the slightly faster Leica 50mm f/0.95, so that price is pretty damn good), while the latter is f/1.4 (not f/1.2), yet still a very fine lens by all accounts.

Actually ... come to think of it, it was probably the 50mm f/1.1 .... still stupendously expensive

That's an M - mount if I'm not mistaken (Leica) so $1,149 = peanuts :ugh:
In K mount, 1.2 lenses are not all that rare. The A can still be found new.

They show up in our own Marketplace from time to time as well, both K and A.

K's are cheaper, yet you can still shoot in Av mode wide open...which is why you bought the lens in the first place, so that's something to think about

So, which one is preferable: the Pentax A or K type?

OK ... quick question ... have been hunting high and low for any of these brand f/1.2 lenses.
It seems they have become quite scarce indeed.

I have seen a new Cosina.Voightlander 55mm f1.1 out there ... but for $1149 ... there's no chance in hell I could afford that.
That is a Leica M mount lens and will only fit M mount rangefinders. It's meant to compete against the Leica Noctilux f1.2/1.0/f0.95 - if you google it, you'll understand why $1149 is "cheap"

Finally I have one. And a cheap one to boot (50 euros with a free camera with motor winder) attached. It's the Porst Color Reflex MC Auto 1:1.2/55mm (K mount). And here's the first result:

With my K-50mm f1.2 on the way, I finally had the nerve to look at this (fantastic) thread.

WOW. I had all-but-decided that this lens was one that I would have to "flip", but after viewing this thread I don't see how I can.

Also, I have to say that the weird-a*s bokeh of the Porst really bothers me. Like the soundtrack to a movie, if you notice it FIRST then there is something wrong (IMHO). As I paged through this thread, it became easier and easier to tell which were the Pentax lenses vs the Porst (before looking at the captions).

That isn't to say there wasn't strong imagery presented with the Porst, but I feel that the weird bokeh contributed to a background that competed too strongly with the subject. As with all things subjective, Your Mileage May Vary (americanism).

1/400, ƒ/1.2, ISO 100

1/50, ƒ/1.2, ISO 400
