Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS

My wife bought me the new sigma lens for Christmas. I'm wondering if anyone has any reviews/opinions on this lens vs. the Pentax/Tamron 18-250mm. Can't seem to find any. I'll check the return policy and possibly post a few test shots. Thanks in advance!

A Pentax user's impression, and some comparisons to the Pentax/Tamron version.

You may wish to read some relevant threads at both DPreview and PentaxForums.com: [https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/84325-zoom-lens-k-7-a.html].

There is a solid review of the Pentax 18-250mm at [www.photozon.de] : []Pentax SMC DA 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 ED AL [IF] - Review / Lab Test Report.

A review of the Sigma 18-200m is at []Sigma Lens: Zooms - Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC (Tested) - SLRgear.com!.

A review of the more recent and more expansived Sigma 18-250mm OS HSM is at []Sigma Lens: Zooms - Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM (Tested) - SLRgear.com!.

I have the Pentax 18-250mm and I am very happy with it. I understand that the Sigma 18-200mm is an older, less performant lens. The newer Sigma 18-250mm OS HSM seems to give excellent results, but for a price.

Hope that the info will assist.

I decided to return the sigma 18-250mm ($540 is a bit much when slightly used pentax 18-250mm can be had in the $300s).

I already have a tamron 70-300mm that I like, and decided to try the sigma 24-135mm which I found used for about $160. I've read it needs to be stopped down a little to get sharp pictures, but should be pretty good when I learn how to use it. I have a couple old pentax-m 28mm and 50mm that are pretty good in low light (so long as I get the focus right).

Any suggestions for the wide angle? I have the kit 18-55mm, but am thinking about swapping it for either a fast prime, or faster/shorter zoom.

some people had problems with the sigma 24-135 on pentax dslr bodies.
it would turn off the rear lcd display.

i had one w/ my *ist DL and i had to return it because of this problem.

but, then again, not all had problems.
