Some first shots with my newly aquired Arsat 35mm/2.8

Today, I bought me a second(....)-hand Arsat 2.8/35mm shift lens. Never ever had a shift lens before, but I did not like the way my city shots turned out, with leaning buildings etc. I know, this can be cured in PP, but I'd like to try a shift lens. The genuine Pentax tilt lens is very expensive, and this Arsat was within my budget.

On my way back home I tried the lens. The weather was very dull, so the colours turned out quite flat, and I know the lens can do better - tested it indoors. This is just to show the effect of the shift mechanism. #1 with tilted camera, #2 with the shift mechanism in work. Both are made from about the same position, but not exactly!

Thanks! Yes it works quite fine! Will use thise quite often, I guess.
That will give me opportunity to show some better photos with this special lens...

Congrats on the purchase!
How do you feel about the FL so far, not too long? What about flare resistance?
My brother is considering this lens for his Sony (he's over the head in debts after buying an apartment though, so not much chance to try it in the near future

)
PS: don't forget to post some pics of it mounted in extreme t/s positions

Seems really sharp!

Is it just a "perspective-control" shift lens, or a tilt/shift lens (w/ tilt and shift on different axes)?

Thank you! Well, it's on the long side, I would have loved a 28mm for this one

. Don't know about the flare resistance, because we had only a grey and overcast day.... From what I understand on the internet, it can show flare......

Thank you! No, no tilt, unfortunately! Only a shift, but with a quarter of the price, I thought I'd go for this one....

That is very interesting. I have never used a T-S lens. What did you use to set it to avoid the tilting of the building? Did you just adjust it until it looked correct in the viewfinder?

Yep, just that. There are dedicated viewfinder glasses with vertical-horizontal lines to check the composition and perspective, but I don't have it. So, probably it can be done better.....

Well it doesn't look like you need them anyway. Your shot looks perfect to me.

I am a big fan of people posting tests like you did: One picture as a baseline, and another as a comparison after something was changed.

Thanks for posting this example of what a tilt lens does.
