Sigma steps up.

.

New Sigma 85mm 1.4 - available in Pentax mount.

Will you buy, depending on price and reviews?

.

Also:

70-200 2.8 stabilized even for Pentax

The lens covers a medium telephoto range of focal lengths from 70mm to 200mm and has a large maximum aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. The OS (Optical Stabilizer) function offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower than would otherwise be possible. For Sony and Pentax mount, the built-in OS function of this lens can be used even if the camera body is equipped with an image sensor shift anti-shake system.

.

And:

17-50 with OS

If the IQ of the 85/1.4 is better than the Samyang (etc.) 85/1.4 at wide open and F2, and is priced below $500, I'd buy.

After getting the M 85mm I've really fallen in love with that focal length. Im thinking this will end up in my bag eventually if the price is around (hopefully under) $500

It will probably be better than the Samyang, but it's an 85mm f/1.4 with HSM - I'm guessing it will be between $750 and $1000.

At 77mm filter thread size, I'd imagine it to be very fat

Depending upon the IQ I want the 85mm
Now if only they'd make a 135mm f1.8, macro lens I'd be in heaven

In a word, YES.

I've been wanting a proper 85 1.4 for a while now, but I didn't want to buy a MF lens, nor did I want to spend 1.2k+ on a FA*. As much as I like the rendering of the 77 1.8, it just doesn't have the same subject separation 85 1.4s do.

I love my Sigma 30 1.4, and by all accounts the Sigma 50 1.4 is even better. If the 85 is as good as the other Sigma 1.4s, then I will definitely snatch one up. After that it'd be a shootout between FA77, and depending on the result one or the other will go up on the marketplace.

I wonder if the new Sigma 70-200 would be any better optically than the current HSM II

great find Jay. I'm considering the Sigma not because I don't like my Rok 85/1.4, but I needed an AF 85. the HSM is just another added bonus. however, I would really like it even more if it would be more sharper and have a lot of contrast and strong and consistent performance above f4 than my Rok (something like the Sigma macro 70). if it delivers the way I imagined it, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one for $700. I would probably sell both my Sigma 70 and Rok just to cut the costs and the obvious fact that I won't be using them that often nor even use them anymore once the Sigma 85 arrives. I just don't want them sitting in the corner, that would be rude.

Yes, price & review dependent, absolutely! Currently, my quest for a fast portrait lens was looking to end with the Sigma 50mm f 1.4, but this changes things for me. I prefer the 85mm focal length for portraits.

If Sigma produces an AF 85 1.4, in line with the Sigma 50mm 1.4's performance, my quest may just end there. I would not pay $1000 for it though. It would have to be priced much better than that for me.

As long as I'm here, fueling the old LBA, I have to admit the 70-200mm has certain appeal as well. And then there is that absolute honey of a long-range zoom known as the 100-300 f4. My goodness!!!

I just hope that these new revised lenses are better optically than their Non-OS counterparts. the closest the Sigma 85 has in terms of focal length is the Sigma 70. I pray for it to do better.

If I hadn't wussed out and got the FA 77mm back in December, I'd consider it. I'll still be paying attention to the 85mm.

I'll bet that that 70-200 is going to be better optically than the current one. Not that the current one is bad at all, but they took a minor step backwards when they tried to go too "macro " with it. Add OS, better performance optically, and it might jump to the head of the class like the 100-300 f/4 did.

And that 85. My, my. If they do in that FL what the did at 50mm, they just may have shaken the field up a bit.

Sigma, frankly, impresses the hell out of me these days. Take a look:

Sigma 30 1.4: maybe AF accuracy problems, maybe not - if not, brilliant.
Sigma 50 1.4: Made Nikon fanboys cry like little girls.
Sigma 70 2.8 macro: Possibly sharpest macro on the market
Sigma 150 2.8 macro: Pentaxians cry like schoolgirls that this is not available. Brilliant.
Sigma 50-150 2.8 HSM II: Fast, sharp, contrast, colors beyond the rainbow.
Sigma 100-300 f4 HSM: It leads it's class. So sharp wide open you don't need f/5.

And now these new lenses... Kudos, Sigma.
