How much the Sigma 70-200mm EX APO (non DG, non HSM) on the market place

I havent seen the Sigma 70-200 EX APO (non DG, non HSM) on the market place lately and was wondering how much is the market price for this one?
are there anybody interested of this lens or may prefer the newer models instead?

I have one

I don't know how much it'll cost you now

It's an amazing lens

Super sharp even wide open at 70mm

It's like you have a string of primes from 70 right up to 200mm

The only negative is it's a little on the heavy side

Amazingly fast AF ( 1 of main reason why I prefer it over Tamron )

You won't regret getting it

I doubt you will see many in the market place, because non of us owners is crazy enough to sell theirs.

I have had my copy for 6 years, and use it with sigma's TCs (both 1.4x and 2x) Palmer also has one but I doubt he will sell his either.

I have just not seen any reason to upgrade to the newer models and since the HSM version is not supported by SIGMA's TCs that is a real limiting factor for anyone looking.

Last one I saw on EBAY was posted at aboout $700 but that was a while ago.

Also, When sigma had interrupded production a few years ago, these lenses were going for about $1200-$1400 US which is more than I paid new.

Yes they are heavy, but they are an excellent lens even wide open across the entire focal length range

If it's in good working conditions, you should grab it

I agree grab it.

As I noted above, when the entire group of pentax users were crying out for a 70-200F2.8 a few years ago (before tamron entered the market, and sigma came out with the DG Macro) these were selling used for $1400.

I bought and sold the 70-200/2.8 II HSM for $600, and the non-HSM, non-DG version is generally regarded as being better optically. I'd say anywhere from $650-750 is fair.

I recently bought a Pentax FA* 200mm f2.8 on Ebay with the idea of selling my MKI Sigma 70-200mm f2.8. I have to say the Pentax is ever so slightly better but overall I am happy enough with the Sigma. So much so I have just sold the FA* lens .. the 70-200mm is going nowhere.

I would be disappointed if a pentax FA fixed focal length was not as good as any zoom, but, when you consider what the sigma can do overall, you echo the problem the OP will face.

Finding someone that wants to sell

So your saying that this lens is still in demand up to now even if there are new versions of this lens right? I post this thread so that i will know that if ever i bought the sigma and thinking of selling it there are still people who will but this lens.

I obviously can't garentee a resale. But there are A lot of users who are so pleased with it that they would not sell and saw no reason to trade for a later version, myself included

wouldn't the pentax DA* 50-135 fetch more in resale? Adorama lists one for $799 brand new.

From what I can gather (and this goes for Canon and Nikon mount as well) the older non macro lenses are actually preferred over the newer versions. Although they lack HSM that is more than made up by being sharper wide open @ 200mm.

Also the older version works very well with the 1.4x and 2x teleconverters whereas the HSM version will not.
