Takumar S-M-C 135mm f/2.5

I got this lovely lens in the mail last week and it's been my constant companion since. For me, nothing is as satisfying to hold as the old Takumars witht the fluted metal focus ring.

Here's a couple from often maligned lens Takumar Bayonet 135 f2.5. I was testing the lens from my deck and I hear helicopter noise and had to give it shot... Both images were shot at f8.0, on a very bright day.

FA 135mm f2.8

I mostly use it for portraits but it's so compact I brought it along on my walk in the woods and I'm glad I did (although I really should have brought the tripod too.)

Douglas, I didn't use it with a lens hood at the time that I used this prime. I think you should find a round metal lens hood and a better cap. Yes, the Vivitar metal cap is not what I will prefer using. In US, I often rely on a reputable store by the name of heavystar in ebay. I searched in the store with 62mm metal lens hood that comes with a matching 67mm cap on the other end of the lens hood for you.

62mm lens hood with a 67mm cap
New Metal Telephoto 62mm Screw-in Lens Hood + Cap - eBay (item 160425325744 end time Nov-14-10 20:51:54 PST)

And if you need a matching pinch lens cap that may work well with the prime, I will look for something like this cap

62mm center pinch cap
New 2 x 62mm Center Pinch Snap-on Lens Cap Set - eBay (item 360268519641 end time Oct-29-10 18:19:03 PDT)

By the way, I really like the frosty pictures on the leaves. I think you should give this lens a work out on people as well because I am very surprised with its performance and usage in a wedding

Thanks!
Hin
Will try it on the kids as soon as I get the time.
Actually found a lens cap in my drawers, and may have something that work for a shade as well.

No, don't get any of those just yet.

I'll update this post with photos tonight. I think you'll like what you see.

Update: Here's the hood for the Vivitar 135mm Close-Focusing: a 62-49mm step down adapter ring, and a Pentax 49mm metal hood (originally for Takumar 50/55mm 1.8/2.0 lenses). The cap is a 49mm pinch cap from Deal Extreme (about US$ 2 shipped). I attached two small strips of self-adhesive sandpaper to the center pinch of the cap to make it easier to grasp when it's inside the hood):
I suspect this would vignete on film, and since I plan to use it both on digital and film, I'll look for another option. But thanks for the tip.

Please post something more shot with this lens, some portraits perhaps. I've been considering buying one.

As you demonstrate with this fine potrait the photographer is more important than the lens.

Yes, this is typically considered the worst 135mm lens from Pentax, in K mount. But it is not necessarily worse than many 3rd party 135mm lenses. It is a simplest lens solution Pentax used for 135mm, but it is the same as the SMC Pentax-A 135mm, but without the SMC (and A contacts). Put on a good lens shade and you even out much of the difference.

I received my 2nd 135mm 2.8 last week; a Vivitar (Komine) this time. It's hardly been off my camera since. I'm a novice at using manual lenses, but this one seems to make it easy.

Very nice colors. Is this the close up version that goes to 1:2 macro?

BTW, I've been asked to post more with the A*135/1.8, and will do so eventually, but if you are interrested, right now I'm posting some stage photos with this lens in another thread: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/mini-challenges-games-photo-stories/11936...ml#post1247892

Wanted Tamron adaptall 2 135mm f2.5

No I didn't mean wanted as in "I wan't to buy one", but I want it posted in this thread.

Tamron adaptall 2 135mm f2.5 (model 03B) (from the fabulous adaptall-2.org).

There are very few user reviews on the web, and none on the forum lens reviews. Is this lens rare? Looks like many other adaptall 2 lenses are still popular. Why not this? If someone at the forum has one, please post pictures of and by this lens on the 135mm club thread. I'm curious.

Thinking of it, am I the only one who think that Pentax newest lens finnish with the DA...WR lenses and the new 35mm must be inspired by these adaptall 2 lenses?
