[SOLD] FS: Takumar Asahi 28-80 Macro f/3.5 -4.5 ($40)

This is a manual focus lens with Automatic aperture with A setting on aperture ring on K mount. And I have used it in my K100D. The glass is clean and free of scratches and fungus and it comes with both front and rear lens cap. When I got the lens from eBay, the front cap is not matching in 58mm filter size, and I will throw in the matching size front cap. I like the lens for the range of 28mm to 80mm and it has macro at 80mm. One caveat noted is the slippery and short focusing ring; otherwise, the lens does fine for my learning experience in manual focusing. The lens comes in the heavy side but it is well built as shown in the pictures.

Price: $40.00 + shipping (paypal and US+Canada shipping only)
Price includes matching front cap, rear cap and lens hood

My thoughts and picture on the lens

Reason for selling: I get way too many gear and I have to unload some before I find it justified to buy other gear.

Thanks,
Hin

Hi there, Hin. I remember when you bought this lens! I also bought an old 28-75mm from eBay recently, but it's definitely not as good as yours (so imagine what it's like). Still, I find it refreshing to use as I feel a lot more involved in the actual process of making the photo.

I hope you find a buyer soon!

Lens Hood for 58mm filter thread included

For the price, I will add in the lens hood to help with lens flare. Picture of lens with lens hood:

More pictures and info

Someone PM me more information about the Macro focusing

Original purchase pictures:
Auctiva Image Hosting

Macro focusing:
Past 80mm focal mark, the zoom lens get into the Macro mode and I would guess about 1:5 or 1:4 magnification but I can't be sure as there is no marking to confirm the magnification. The marking of closest distance is about 1 feet and when I focus at Macro on a flower, I move closer than 1 feet at the zoom end for Macro, I would guess somewhere less than a feet.

As noted, I am including a matching 58mm front cap and a matching 58mm lens hood and just these two items already cost me $15. I will leave the item until Christmas and it will be moved to ebay after Christmas.

Thanks,
Hin

Item shipped

Item shipped in USPS service station at 6:00pm right before that station closes. Unfortunately, they don't have tracking for shipment to Canada, bummer. And they charged me 2 bucks more than planned. I am running a losing business on calculating the actual shipment. 2 bucks is fine but I get almost $19 less for the Romania sale: $11 for added insurance and $7.75 for paypal charge against international border -- yike. But I am happy for my friends in Romania and Canada.

Hope you see the package soon after New Year. It states about 7 to 10 business days for delivery, probably longer due to New Year.

Thanks,
Hin

shipping charges suck. I never get them right. I either under quote or charge way to much.

John, that is very generous of you to send in the $2.00 extra, it is actually $1.75 or something like that. I am afraid that I will keep the change yoho. But I don't mean to ask for the change. LED, don't do it as I am not asking for money but friendship is what I am after, money is important and I can't help to think it but it is NOT important as genuine trust and friendship. Mastercard can't get you those intangible assets.

I will write up how I use the Takumar in manual focusing guide, the specialty way that I use for manual focusing. I think many advance users will do it differently, I have some odd ways of manual focusing that I gain through using MF lens, you can reference my work in

Photography Portfolio of Hin - Hin's Photoblog

and in particular with manual focusing on flying seagulls using another MF lens with Prakticar 28-70 Macro zoom on my K100D

Foster City Waterfront Pizza - a photoset on Flickr

images used by blog posts:
Finding Target - Hin's Photo Blog

And I will document how I achieve sharp focus with various funky techniques that I use on the flying seagulls. What strangely helps me for those sharp pictures are not AF obviously, but a loose focusing ring and a short one so that I can easily pan the flying birds in movement. Now that you see my tricks with those pictures, I hope you are excited about the limitless possibility of Pentax cheap gear.

Sincere thanks,
Hin

I don't mind covering the shipping rate as that was part of the deal. I know you didn't ask for it but I sent it anyway. As I noted the actual shipping costs were part of our transaction. Have a Happy New Year

Mark thread as SOLD next

John, thank you for the kind words and I am marking this thread as SOLD, I was not paying attention to the 'sticky post' on the thread tool to mark a thread item to be SOLD to go to the SOLD item sub folder.
