I prefer avoiding abbreviations for the sake of causing less confusion.

Post Processing, Chromatic Aberrations, Medium Format, Manual Focus, Purple Fringing. Just some examples for y'all.

I always took PP to be Post Processing, e.g. making adjustments such as curves, levels, brightness/contrast, hue/saturation, noise reduction, sharpening etc, to the image after you've taken the photo

PP is fine. Just watch out for the following:
LBA
BBA/CBA

Hmm...maybe we should ask Adam about setting up a Glossary under the Quicklinks. Common photographic terms defined, common acronyms given in full, the sort of common terminology that's helpful to newbies and querulous old fogies alike. What do you think?

There are plenty of resources on the internet; no use going over the same thing again.

I'd almost like to see people using the full words, or even a longer modified version.
Like ftpaddict said MF could either stand for Medium Format or Manual Focus, and it isn't the only one.

I know, I know...but it seems that quite a number of members (and who knows how many lurkers) seem to come here first, asking or seeking answers to basic questions. It appears that research elsewhere (and I agree that there are plenty of web resources already) isn't where many people start. They start here. So, why not accommodate them and somewhat reduce repetitive postings on basic terminology and concepts?

What's your problem?
Many of the above acronyms are pretty common nowadays, much like text messaging (or SMS) and have come to be commonly accepted. If you can't embrace it, either live with it, determine to familiarise yourself with it or you can choose not to use it. Nobody is forcing you to use it and there is no need to react negatively to it.

My problem is society is becoming increasingly lazy and rather than keep things clear and simple we have to find a shortcut for everything. And people complain when things go wrong. Somethings are better left the way they are, shortcutting just gets us nowhere.
