How to install the PPL Upgrade when you don't have the orginal disk or PPL installed
Posted By: Russell-Evans, 09-14-2008, 04:32 AM

You'll need a blank CD and CD writing program.

You need to create a CD and label it S-SW55. The disk can have anything you want on it. PPL 3.51 will ask for the disk and once your S-SW55 disk is inserted, it will continue on with the install.

Thank you
Russell

Someone else noted that if you pass the /s command line option to the installer, the software installs in silent mode and doesn't require the original or faked CD.

Thank you

Digital Camera Utility 4.11 Update

Unlike the previous updates, the installer asks for the CD even if you give it the /s option. You can get around not having the original CD and not having the older 4.0 software installed, by burning a CD with the name S-SW90. It doesn't matter what is on the CD, it can be blank if you want.

Thank you
Russell

I have a CD but the 4.11 version is still looking for 4.... This won't work AFAIKT.
4.11 update at Pentax even states so. Though this seems to be a bit confusing.
IF you got 4.11 to install on top of a 3.x version I would like to know.
PENTAX wishes to announce the release of the Windows Updater for update the PENTAX Digital Camera Utility 4. For correct update, you are required to be installed PENTAX Digital Camera Utility 4 before hand on your PC. Please download the Updater file on your PC first, and update it.

I think you might have made the CD incorrectly.

Thank you
Russell

Tried at home w/ an orig. ist-D disc.
Also tried at work w/ a k200 original CD.
Neither allowed mer to upgrade a 3.X version to 4.11. Same error message.
To be perfectly clear your version that you upgraded to 4.11 was a 3.x version of the software???? Now I'm confused.
OK' I'll try the fake disc. The k200 software is labeled s-sw74 just an fyi
Also the disc is recognized (both the D and the k200 disc) and the error message comes up after extraction and the beginning of the upgrade

This worked for me too. It didn't update version 3, it installed version 4 and left version 3 alone.

OK, success.

need S-SW90 (either real or created as above). Other discs (at least my 2) are not sufficient.
That said a made up S-SW90 worked for me as well. Full 4.11 installed.

Worked on the mac side as well -- created and mounted a .dmg with that name.

Thanks for the tip.
