PEF vs DNG

Pro's - cons?

I understand PEF is pentax's format but DNG is an open format?

Otherwise why would one choose DNG over PEF or visa versa?

I used DNG by default so far because its open, but would like to know more.

wiki on DNG
Digital Negative (file format) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

there is no wiki on PEF but it does say its a Pentax format.

There is already a few threads on PF and a google search will bring a host of info down. For me, I use PEF because the file sizes are a little smaller which over 1000's of photos saves a lot of disk space.

Figmental is correct, there are many many threads about this subject already on this forum, use the "search" function.

Besides that, there is NO difference other than the smaller file size with PEF.

I use DNG because file size doe not concern me (memory is cheaper than dirt now) and I prefer not having to add a step in the process when processing.

I use DNG b/c filesize is very slightly larger than PEF on K-x (now doing compression on it unlike K-m), no dealing with camera profiles in LR, and LR/PS don't need an update.

On K-m I used PEF for size, but now it is neglible

I think it doesn't like short search terms.

If you find this search engine limiting, there is a google search bar at the bottom of the search page, and you can use google's siteentaxforums.com (I do a lot of this) where you can use a lot of different operators and sort by many things easily.

In addition, at the bottom of this page there are 5 threads with the same title.
