'Just Testing' - night shots from S-M-C Tak 85/1.8
Lens: Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 85/1.8 Camera: Pentax K-x Photo Location: East Vancouver, Canada Aperture: F1.8
Posted By: Dubesor, 01-27-2011, 12:42 AM

Was lucky to score a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 85/1.8
Here are my first quick test shots using my Pentax K-x.

JPEGs straight out of camera (just downsized). All shot wide open at f1.8, also using the Takumar lens hood. B&Ws were shot in the K-x Monochrome mode.
Having just the stock focus screen made manual focusing very tricky. Using Live View for manual focus at night helped a lot. I love that you can compose your shot in B&W that way too ...

#1 1/25s handheld @ ISO 5000

#2 2s long exposure @ ISO 100 (used a little log as impromptu tripod)

3 1/13s handheld @ ISO 6400

#4 1/125s handheld @ ISO 2500

#5 1/125s handheld @ ISO 3200

Here are some more film shots with this lens (Spotmatic SPII. Kodak 400 Max)

the contrast for the colored ones plays very nicely in the compo of the pictures - the lens did give you the power to do nice night shots. #4 excites me.

Nice job with your photos and your new lens certainly performed well. Looking forward to seeing more.

Sorry but I really don't see the point of some of these (digital not film). Are you testing the lens or your camera's high ISO ? Surely you'd be better off testing it's DoF for portraiture ? The reason I say that is you could get better shots than you have by putting down a tripod and shooting for longer on a low ISO (100-200) with any good lense - but especially your 85 !

True, I just didn't have room that time to bring a tripod. And it's always fun to play with high ISO on the K-x
