Singapore (Part I)
Lens: DA 18-55 WR & DA 55-300 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Singapore ISO: 80 Shutter Speed: 1/20s Aperture: F8

Well folks, this is my first of a short series of scenes presented from the fine little Asian island nation of Singapore. I was privileged also to catch up with creampuff (Denis) and frank (Frank ) for an afternoon chat with another of their Pentaxian friends, Ben.

This forum has linked me in with people around the world, and being able to meet them face to face on casual travel to their countries is such a pleasure. Denis and Frank, thank you for your kind hospitality and the interesting discussions of life in Singapore, and of course, Pentax.

Without further ado, here are some of the captures I managed to get on my 2 day walk around town. As you may appreciate, the weather in Singapore is rarely fine, and some PP work had to be done to spruce up the skies in these shots.

Istana Gardens

Terrace lane

Keeping out of the rain

Colourful street corner

Sri Krishnan temple gods

Grand fountain

News Stand

Frank himself modeling his silver K-5 and FA 31 ltd:

And finally, the magnificent Marina Bay Sands, providing the backdrop to Frank's mug shot

More to come later...

Very nice little stroll through Sing. Love the terraced lane houses.

What's that you say ? Weather rarely fine in Sing ?!?! Try China ! Sing's constant 30-31C all year round would be heaven !

Thanks all.
By being 'rarely fine' I mean rarely sunny. It's often heavily overcast (dull sky and poor contrast for photography) and very humid (always 'about' to rain or raining!).

But it's certainly liveable, if you don't mind sweating at rest.
And Sing's got camera shops everywhere! I mean every second shop in a shopping centre is a camera shop! But prices were obviously hiked up for the tourists.

Pentax was not popular but some shops surprised me - rows of DA lenses (I was like a kid in a candy store ). And then, you get the big guns from Canon and Nikon...

Ash, great series, I feel I went along with you for the ride, I always enjoy seeing areas that I have read about so much but will probably never visit. Thanks for taking the time to post and the photography was excellent. Bob

Lovely colourful shots. Have been many times to Singapore but never seen these places. Must make it a point to visit these.

This is a terrific series, Ash. The intense color that shows up everywhere is remarkable to someone who's accustomed to gray steel, dark blue windows and unpainted concrete that define so many of our cities.

THank you both.
It's definitey a great place to visit/tour. Lots to offer, not just shopping.
And it's such a rich amalgumation of Indian, Chinese and Malaysian cultures.

Wasn't worth taking a photo fo Pentax stock in these shops - wasn't enough of it around.
Expensive along the 'tourist strip' (Orchard Rd), but apparently there are some shops elsewhere that have much better prices (I just couldn't find them myself - that's where inside knowledge would help).

Part 2 of the series is presented here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/143065-travel-singapore-part-ii.html

Nice meeting you here in SG, and sorry for seeing your threads so late.

Here is one of your photos I took during our short work along the river:

Thanks Frank.
The K-5's high ISO came in handy.
Was great catching up with you.
